connection to postgresql cannot be made

When I open the program the database control panel pops up and says "connection to postgresql cannot be made. would you like to have HM attempt to start the service?" So I click on yes and it says HM has started the service try again. So I try again and the same thing happens.

When I go to the administrative tools-->service and try to strat the service it gives an error: 1053

How can I fix this?
