It is weird when I point with the mouse on some badge on the hud: it appears the next pop up with a small square of orange color!
Does that match what?

The popup will do that if the player is no longer eligible for the badge since the last time the HUD updated the badges. This means the badge will disappear as soon as the badges refresh also
