    Default IP / OOP preflop

A general question about the in position / out of position designation for preflop stats:

For stats like "3bets IP" or "Fold to 4Bet when OOP," etc., does their title refer to the relative postflop position, or does IP mean a preflop non-blind seat and OOP mean in the blinds? (Or something else entirely?) Thanks.

This is what it means in both circumstances. 3B IP can also refer to BB vs SB.

But in that case technically the BB is OOP (to most other positions anyway) preflop, but is IP if it's just against SB. Are you saying that if a preflop says IP it's main criterion is how it plays postflop? Sorry if I'm being dense here. Genuinely not clear.

If it folds to the SB who raises and BB 3bets, it's not.

But it is in reference to the original raiser.

So I'm guessing it's the same for a 4 bet -- that ip/oop is in reference to the villain who 3bet (rather than the person who raised originally), correct?

Yes. It is in reference to the person that the action is against.
