How to create images for notecaddy badges?

Any idea what would be the easiest way to create images for notecaddy badges?

1) Open gimp/paint/photoshop and create a 16x16 canvas and paint
2) Open gimp/paint/photoshop and create a 256x256 canvas paint, and shrink it to 16x16
Save the picture as a png. I think you want the background transparent.

3) Google it, like I did for orange fruit, select pictures, search tools, image size = 16x16

Then you can use this for someone who squuezes a lot: orange-fruit-emoticon.png
