    Default External SSD for Laptop

    Hi,

I'm using HM2 on a laptop and it's gotten slow. I can't upgrade the internal HDD to an SSD. Does moving the HM2 data to an external SSD work well? I have a USB 3.0 Port.

Any recommendations what manufacturer to look for for external SSDs?

    Thanks.

-1 Find an external SSD that supports USB 3.0 with the fastest 4K read speeds as possible.
(don't focus on the sequential read/write speed with which most manufacturers advertise)

-2 With a USB 3.0 port you can also use a SuperTalent RAIDDrive, which is a small USB memory stick, which can outperform many external SSDs.

Transcend 128GB USB 3.0 External Solid State Drive, TS128GESD400K

Verbatim Store 'n' Go 128 GB USB 3.0 External Solid State Drive (SSD) 47622

Just postgresql and then when creating a new HM2 database you want to assign your parent \database folder to the SSD drive as well. The installers on postgresql.org will give you an option to pick the drive during installation.

I can't so I left it for Pat. I personally would never recommend using an external drive (ssd or hdd) for your database.

Check Tom's Hardware: Hardware News, Tests and Reviews or AnandTech | Home (or other review sites for benchmarks).
Get the drive with the highest 4K read speeds.
