1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) Run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator and type the following and then press enter:
net user postgres /delete
3) You should get a successfully completed response if done correctly. If you get a permission type error you likely didnt run it as administrator as explained above.
4) Reboot your PC
5) Install the same version of PostgreSQL as your previous database using these instructions - http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/ques...rving+database

Hi Fozzy71,
thanks for the reply.
Is it a problem that the old database was created on a windows XP desktop and my new desktop is running on windows 8.1
It won't matter if you were using PostgreSQL 8.4.x on the Windows XP computer--> and are now still using PostgreSQL 8.4.x on the new Windows 8.1 system.
If you used a different version of PostgreSQL (for example 8.2 or 8.4 on the XP computer, and 9.0 or 9.2 64 bit version on the Windows 8.1 system) it may not work, and you'll have to install the same version of PostgreSQL to successfully restore a backup.
