Hey, we've got a problem here :
A few month ago, I have had to change my PC because HEM2 was very slow when playing.
(When I play, I use HEM2 + Notecaddy). At that time, my HEM2 DB was 3ish Go, Currently, my HEM2 DB's size is 4 Go.
So now, I have a new PC, with : Intel Core i5-4440 CPU@3.10GHz + 8Go RAM + Windows 8
Since I have installed HEM2 and started to play on this new PC, I have always had problems during my poker sessions : HUD stats freeze, and sometimes everything freezes, so I have to Ctrl+Alt+Suppr and stop HEM2, then restart it if I want to continue playing.
I have created additional NC definitions : like 50 ones. These definitions are pretty simple (like Villain's fold% in a specific spot). None of these additional definitions use "Player type" criteria.
Sometimes, these additional stats don't show up in my HUD pop up, but maybe this is my fault as I might have forgotten to start the "create notes" process in NC. I also realized recently that if I create a NC note, I have to reboot the PC if I want it to show up in my HUD. (if I create a new NC note, then reset the notes, then launch the notes creation process, then start a poker session without rebooting, I think the NC additional stat shows "-", even if I have 20K hands on Villain).
Also, another detail : I would say my HUD contains around 50 stats, I don't know if this is a relevant information to understand why everything freezes?
Last week, my HUD started to mess up even more while playing.
By "HUD messing up" I mean :
-stats were not incrementing during the session (after playing 1 hour vs a random, my HUD was only showing "10 hands played" for example),
-or showing "-",
-the HUD started freezing,
-the stats panels were loading next to the wrong player,
-when i opened a new table, it took several minutes for the HUD to appear next to this new table, and often with the wrong stats.
So I had to stop the HUD several times during the session, and start it again, but even this was almost impossible to do as HEM2 wouldn't show up : it really looked like HEM2 was freezing, and I couldn't access the HEM2 interface during the session... so once again I often had to Ctrl+Alt+Suppr and stop HEM2...
But as far as I can remember, HEM2 was only using 50% CPU, and the memory involved didn't seem that big.
I also noticed that the NC notes creation process seems slower than it used to be (around 80 notes / sec with the maximum 4 threads and fast option enabled, while I think it used to be around 125 notes / sec).
I did the NC vacuum db thing, but it doesn't help.
So yesterday, I followed your tips :
I let it do that during the night and earlier this morning, my computer had restarted and Windows 8 was asking for my password to start.
I also wanted to do this :

So I followed these tips until step 3 but Postgres refused to connect the DB.
So I thought it was a password mistake, and closed the postgres interface and tried to launch HEM2, but once again, it told me that it couldn't connect postgres DB.
So I closed everything and reboot the PC.
It took a very long time for Windows to allow me to type my Windows password.
This was the first time this happened so I thought there was a problem and restarted the PC again without entering Windows.
Once again, Windows took a very long time to allow me to type my password.
This time I went forward, and started Windows.
But now the postgres problems remain the same. I have tried to stop the postgres server and start it again, but I get this error message in the command windows : in english, it should be something like "System error 5 occured. Access denied. The start command returned an error <2>"
I followed your tips :
1. Go to C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.x\data. Move the the pg_hba file to your Desktop and open it with notepad.
2. Scroll to the bottom and change all md5 to trust. Save and close the file
3. Move the file back to the data folder
4. Restart the PostgreSQL service: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services > PostgreSQL > restart
But in the file I couldn't find any "md5", and at the bottom, the 2 lines already contained "trust".
So now, my short term problem is that I can't access my postgres DB and of course HEM2 wouldn't work anymore.
And my long term problem is that, even after solving my short term problem, how can I have the whole HEM2+NC installation working without freezing?
