Why Smart Poker Players Use PT4 Filters

Poker Tracker 4 provides dynamic filters for database analysis making it easy for you to continually improve your poker game. The filters we will be using are a few out of a list of many intricate possibilities that we will not be addressing in this article. Exploring and tinkering with different filters will give you a great idea of all the combinations that Poker Tracker has to offer.
Open Poker Tracker 4 and go to the “View Stats” tab near the top left. Select your player profile and click on the “More Filters…” button to begin adding customizable filters to your database to address concerns of leaks you may have in your game.

As you can see in the image above the first thing that pops up is the most efficient and simplest ways to filter your database: times and dates. These go beyond the normal ability to filter by varying dates (like May 1st to may 7th). Clicking on “Dates” will take you to a screen that allows you to filter your database by any specific day of the week or multiple days, continuous or discontinuous. If you want to see how you are doing on Monday through Thursday, then you can select all of these days simultaneously. For this example, we are worried about our results from Noon to 4:00PM on Monday through Thursday of these days because that’s when we feel we are lacking focus. Make sure you have clicked the “Off” button to “On” so the filtration is applied.

Beyond the dates filtration system, the level of detail you can put into the pre-flop and post-flop action is as comprehensive as any No-limit Hold’em or Pot-limit Omaha poker game.

So staying on the theme of wanting to analyze if we are unfocused from the Noon to 4:00pm time period on Monday through Thursday we want to see how well we are playing in three bet pots. Click on “Maximum Preflop Raise That Occurred” after clicking the next tab down “Hand Details”.

After you select 3bet pots and go back to the “Hand Detail” section, you can see that it is filtered correctly because of the text in blue.

Now let’s go to the “Win/Loss” filter. We want to review the 3 bet pots we have lost and not the ones we have won.

Saving your filters
Now that we are all set up with our filter exactly how we want it, let’s save it so we can use it later. On the top right of the “Cash Filters” box there is a “Add to Filter” option. At the bottom left of the screen it will say “Save as Quick Filter” and choose an appropriate title.

Now I have 338 hands which is plenty to review and see if I’m making any glaring mistakes. Without this filter it would be nearly impossible for me to analyse such a specific situation from looking at raw data.
Downloading other users filters

There is also a “Share Yours” option where you can upload any filter you have made to share with the poker community. It’s a great way to see how other poker pros are giving themselves an edge in their analysis of their own play.
