    PostgreSQL: Versioning policy

I am currently running 8.4, but I wonder if it makes sense to install 9.2 to have a faster version?

    It makes no real difference.
    (some users still use 8.2.x).

Do update your 8.4 to the latest 8.4.16.

9.2.3 has some theoretical advantages: and there is a special 64 bit version, but HoldemManager doesn't utilize any of them so there will be no performance difference.

And (from personal experience): under 8.4 HM2 is faster than under 9.2 on 32-bit windows (XP) by ~10%

What about the performance on modern operating systems version 6 (Windows 7 & 8)?

If you have a 64 bit operating system with a lot of RAM... it seems the 64 bit version of PostgreSQL (9.0 and 9.2 x64) are a bit more stable. (they won't corrupt as easily) And vacuum/analyse/reindex in pgadminIII is a bit faster.

Don't use PostgreSQL 9.1. Both PokerTracker and HoldemManager don't support it as it is a bit unstable.
