Default after "PostgreSQL Tuning" is clicked buttons freeze up

    Hey,

    fresh System

    win 7 x64
    PostgreSQL 8.4
    newly created DB

I accidentally found the PostgreSQL Tuning function under Maintenance and thought hey cool so I clicked "Tune"..

Now both buttons (Optimize and Tune) turn unclickable as if the Tune-Process were about to start but nothing really happens...

After a while I just click "close" and the Database Manager closes.....

    ---

    any help?!

Go to the Program Files/PosgtreSQL/8.4/postgresql.config file.
(check if you also have a postgresql.bak file with the old settings)

If you have the .bak file, delete the .config file, and rename the .bak file.
If you don't have the .bak file, open the postgresql.config file, and check if the Tuning Wizard made any changes?
(it should state something like ##Old value 32 MB--> new value 128 MB## after a line if changes were made)

I dont have the .bak file and made changes in the .config file myself after I read your "advanced postgresql tuning" advice..

My PostgreSQL is in C:\PostgreSQL and not in "program files"...

Can it be that that is the reason why the tuning wizard does not 'work'?!

The \postgresql path shouldn't matter to the tuning wizard. Are you able to open HM2 and use your existing database or create a new database if your original database is damaged?

If you don't have the .bak file, and didn't create a copy before you made the edits in case you experienced problems after editing, you might end up having to reinstall postgresql to get things working again. Before you try reinstalling it you can see if the attached postgresql.conf file from my installation will get things working for you again.

I have edited a step to our FAQ suggesting the file be copied to the desktop before being edited to try and prevent these problems in the future.

Well, everything IS working - except for:

    http://forums.holdemmanager.com/gene...e-reports.html

But I don't think that these things are related.

    ---------------

I just opened this thread because I was wondering why auto-tune didn't work.

This date range crash is a known bug caused by some missing modules. Reinstalling the full setup file for 7318 and then updating to 7655 should solve this issue to replace the missing modules.

    Hey fozzi,

in your pswlconfig file i read :

    #effective_cache_size = 128MB

Everything i changed i deleted the # ,because i read ,when i donīt do it ..psql will not "use" it .

Are you getting an issue with freezing? What happens if you move the original file back?
