Backup and restore or export/ import?

I want to protect my database because i think my laptop is done and am going to buy a new one.Can I save my database to a hard disk? If so , whats the best way to do this? Shoud i do a backup and restore or export import?

I would recommend a backup and restore as a first choice.

You should have no problem backing up the DB to an external drive. You can also transfer your C:\hmarchive folder. If you used HM under its default settings, all of the hands you have imported should have been archived in this folder.
