Default HM2 was crashing, after 6 days of e-mail support now I can just no longer connect

This is really quite frustrating, not least of all because of the incredibly slow response time to my questions. Initially HM2 was just crashing every time I opened it. It had worked fine for months (since the last time it started randomly crashing), but last Saturday I became unable to use it at all.

I followed supports instructions, detailed here:
Close HM2 and change your Windows > Control Panel > Region and Language > Format to English (USA)

    then restart HM2. Try again.

Close HM2 again and change your regional settings back to your native setting and start HM2 again.

Please delete everything except for the database, notecaddydefinitions, backups and config folders, caddylayout, CaddySettings, ColorDefinitions and layout, NoteCaddyTags and noteDefinitionsLayout files in:
    7: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\HoldemManager\
You must show both hidden files and check unhide system files. See this:
How to show hidden files in Windows 7

See this screenshot for location in 7 and the files you want to save:

    XP: C:\Documents and Settings\User_name\Application Data\HoldemManager

    uninstall

Please update to this version. It will update your database to correct any player names with characters that may cause HUD issues and some stats that were corrected. This may take a while with a large DB, so we recommend doing so when you can leave your computer for a while, like overnight.

Please add holdemmanager.exe, hudfuncapps.exe, postgres.exe, pg_ctl.exe (in postgres\bin) and hmupdate.exe (available only during an update) to the list of exceptions in your firewall and antivirus.

Please make sure that you are running as an administrator.

You may need to uninstall your AV, install HM2, and reinstall your AV.
When this did not work, support just recommended that I create a new database (although they neglected to tell me HOW to do this at first, given that I was unable to actually OPEN HM2). When I attempted to create a new DB, I got the following error message:

    HM problems again.png

I completed the steps listed in the link provided by the message with one exception - I did not delete windows firewall as I could not find instructions online for how to re-install the firewall after I deleted it. However, after trying again to create a new DB, I received the same error message.

If it was possible to receive responses from support at a rate greater than 1 response/day, I would be more than happy continue asking Chris from support for help. however, the incredibly slow rate of response, plus the fact that half of his responses do not give me instructions on *how* to do whatever he's describing (for example, second to last response just told me to create a new DB, but did not tell me how. After e-mailing him back, the next day he informed me to:
Move the name of the DB to your desktop.

Now start HM2, this will bring up the wizard, go through the wizard and then you can create a new database. You can always move the folder back.
I don't understand why this information wasn't provided in the first e-mail, and again is my reason for posting here for help rather than just going through the e-mail support. I really would like to be able to use HM2 again...

    Default

Your main focus now is fixing the PostgreSQL server.
If PostgreSQL runs--> at least you'll be able to start HM2 again. (and we can tackle the random crashes next)

    Getting PostgreSQL to start:
-1 Turn on the secondary Logon. The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also.

-2 Check your hosts file if it looks like this:

    -3
This is often a firewall or windows update issue.

    First try to reboot.

If that doesn't help, try this:

    Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

    Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.

If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...tartPostgreSQL , and http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...tallPostgreSQL

Which Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Run a manual Windows Update and install all updates, including all .net framework updates.
