Default Solid State Hard Drive (Love it!)

I recently built a new computer specifically for poker in mind since my last one fried.

I have a huge database of 5 million hands. The last time I imported it into HEM, it took 4 full days. This is not a shortcoming of HEM or PostGreSQL but just from the simple fact that databases of this size take a long time to import.

A friend of mine who is a master Oracle DBA suggested that I get a solid state hard drive. I bought mine at Fry's for $250. It is a Kingston 128GB. They were out of stock on one that was $199 but I read so many good reviews on the Kingston I went with it.

Instead of 4 days, it will take me about 18 hours.

It serves as my primary drive. Pretty much everything but games and mass data storage (except my database of course) will be on this drive.

My database is obviously extremely important to me. This drive is far more traditional than a standard drive and the performance is amazing. I highly recommend it.

On a side note, thank you to the developers of HEM for the improvements that you have made to the installation process. I have done it a few times now and have it down but the process is so much simpler now even with Windows 7 64 bit.

I take it back. The speed has degraded to the point where it is saying 11 days. It's not the drive and my new system is a super fast 8GB monster. I guess I have some research to do.

It could be a fragmentation/firmware thing...
