    Default Problem with postgreSQL

I tried to use the comboinstaller for reinstalling postgreSQL but the installation stopped. So I tried to install v.8.3 manually and it worked fine, but I can still not open the database with HM.

On which port did you install SQL 8.3?
Run dbcontrolpanel.exe from the HoldemManager folder:
-connect to the database using the correct port settings
-create a new database--> start HoldemManager

If you can't connect, the PostgreSQL server isn't running properly. Try installing http://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/binary...l-8.2.22-1.zip to a different port and connect to that instead.

On which port did you install SQL 8.3?
I skipped that part. I tried to use Port:5432 but it said it was already in use so I unchecked initialize database cluster

Run dbcontrolpanel.exe from the HoldemManager folder:
-connect to the database using the correct port settings
What is correct port settings? Now I use 5432 and can´t connect.

-create a new database--> start HoldemManager
How do I create a new database when I cannot open HM?

If you can't connect, the PostgreSQL server isn't running properly. Try installing http://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/binary...l-8.2.22-1.zip to a different port and connect to that instead.
I try port 5431 and then the installing is stopped where it says "Service "PostgreSQL Database Server 8.2 failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?
Turn off User Account Control: How to Disable and Turn Off UAC in Windows 7 « My Digital Life
    and reboot

Run a manual Windows Update and install ALL updates.
Then try reinstalling PostgreSQL 8.2 to port 5431.

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?
I have windows 7 with no firewall or Anti-virus

Turn off User Account Control: How to Disable and Turn Off UAC in Windows 7 « My Digital Life
    and reboot
    It is off already

Run a manual Windows Update and install ALL updates.
    Done!

Then try reinstalling PostgreSQL 8.2 to port 5431.
I need to change account name to "postgres1"
Then I use "postgres1" as Super user name too and choose port 5431 and then it says the port is already is in use.
And when I try other port numbers I got the message "The specified data directory is not empty. If you have an existing database with the same major version number, you do not need to initialise a database cluster .."

    Try 9.1 from PostgreSQL: Welcome
Install it to an unused port using these install instructions: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...tallPostgreSQL

    Delete the postgres user first:
click on Start and go to Progr ams -> Accessories -> Command Prompt

    * If you are on Vista, rightclick and choose "Run as Administrator".

A black box should appear. Type 'net user postgres /delete' (without the quotes) and press enter.

The user is now deleted and you can (re)install PostgreSQL.
    And it will accept: postgrespass
