Holdem Manager has filled my entire hard drive

I only have 10gb's of my 200+gb hard drive left now after I noticed my computer slowing down.

The importing logs are taking up 150+gb's of space. I understand that you can purge files, but it doesn't work for tourneys which I primarily play.

I'm just looking for some step-by-step instructions for dummies on how to resolve this.

Also, can I just delete these types of files shown below, without losing the stats I have on other players? All the big files are import error files.

That is a lot of import errors. You have 150gb of importing errors in that folder pictured?? Mine are <30MB for comparison. I am going to ask the developer about this.


How much space is being taken by your PostgreSQL Logs??

C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\data\pg_log

I suggest you turn off logging and delete all accumulated SQL logs.


Logging:

I would suggest you turn off logging on your new SQL installation as well as these other performance improvements - Top 10: HEM performance increase tips


To turn off logging, follow these instructions. This is the first thing I do anytime I install SQL for someone.

- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > UnCheck 'Hide Extensions for known file types' > OK

- C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\data\postgresql.conf > Right-Click > Open With.. > NotePad > Check 'Always use this program'

- Scroll about half way down to ~Lines 245 - 260:

- The last line of this block of code, for the 'logging_collector', must be changed from On to Off.

File > Save; File > Close

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.3 > Reload Configuration.

- Start > My Computer > C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\data\pg_log, or C:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\data\pg_log, if you have 64 bit Vista. Delete all files in that folder. And it might be a good idea to empty your recycle bin at that point, or use a 3rd party utility like CCleaner to clean up all your junk/temporary files. You want to do this before you get to the vacuum and defrag process.

Yes, there is 150+gb's in that one folder, including one 20gb file named ImportErrors_InvalidGames, that you cannot see in the image.

The postgre file thing was taking up ~5.5gb's of space and I deleted all of those logs as you suggested. I'm going to try and follow these instructions now to turn off the logging.

Hi, go ahead and delete any files in there. I suspect you have some things configured incorrectly if this is happening to you. Please take a screen shot of your auto import folder list and post here and Fozzy can help you out

What sites do you currently play?? What are those 3 folders on the desktop it is importing from?? PT Archives?? What about the \Stars\Cash Hands?? I am assuming that is also an archive??

If you only play at FTP and Stars, please delete the 1st, 3rd, and 4th folders, that are on the desktop, from the auto import list. You should also add C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Importing\HEM Data so you can pre-fetch hands and have your HUD display before sitting at a table.

My final question is, should I turn the logging collector thing that I shut off earlier back on? or is that not necessary?

The stats are still there, the stuff is gone from my hard drive and everything seems to be working fine

No. I would never turn that logging back on again, unless asked to by someone who knows about SQL. They are completely unimportant for 99.9% of SQL users, and they only slow down your DB.
