Default postgre is not starting after tune up

    Hello,

I did an optimization of a new database and after it finished I made the tune up option for postgre. It said that is done and HM closed, but did not want to start again. Now my postgre is not working at all. I tried to stop/start the server. It gives the good old the service is starting or stoping...
I'm using the latest version, and I did restart my PC.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance!

    Try this:
go to postgresql/data folder and delete 2 files (if they exist):
    postmaster.pid
    postmaster.opts

    then reboot PC

    It did not work.
I had only the "postmaster.opts" file.

    I still get:

Try to undo the tune up changes that were made to postgresql.config.
Delete the file. And reinstall PostgreSQL.

    If that doesn't resolve it:

    ----

Turn on the secondary Logon. The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also.

    try this:

    Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

    Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.

If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely
Try 8.2: PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror and install it to port 5433

8.2? I'm now on 8.4 Why do I want to have such an old version? Is there a big difference between the two?
    Thanks in advance!

btw, I try all previous suggestions... Nothing worked

When 8.3/8.4/9.0/9.1 won't run (which is a common problem) install 8.2 which will always run.

There is no real difference between all the different versions.

    Also:

PC name must be in English and "in one word" - requires reboot after changing.
he same for Windows user name. If it's not - create new Win user with EN name and reboot PC for this user when install Postgres. And he must have admin rights. After installation you can kill this new user - his mission is completed.

This means: if you have Russian (or French, or else) Windows - your PC name possibly contains "non-english" letters.
    Like "Вася-PC" or "Renč-PC"
The same with windows username. Or spaces in the name.
Postgres doesn't like that - and won't run as a result of it.

The same thing happened today after HM2 optimization. You must be joking....
That is totally unacceptable. When those functions are so badly made at least have a warning in the program before they start...
