Upgraded from Vista to WIndows 7 and now HEM doesn't work

I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 (64 bit) and now when I load HEM, I get the error "The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1'". I have turned on administrative permission for all the programs, as well as disabling UAC. I have also activated secondary login and it hasn't made a difference. If I was to reinstall postgresql or HEM, would I lose my whole database? What else can I try? Thanks.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.


If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely

I am using postgresql 9.0, does this matter? I also can't seem to find the stop service. Is it an Icon? It doesn't seem to be there. Also, I don't have a postmaster.pid file but I do have a postmaster.opts file. Should I delete that one? Lastly, if I have to reinstall postgresql, will i have to reimport all my hands? I really don't want to have to do that if we can avoid it because it's several million hands and takes forever.

Try control panel > administrative tools > services. Find PostgreSQL.
Stop service
Start service.

Don't delete the .opts file.

Try installing PostgreSQL. If it detects your old database, you won't have to reimport your hands.
If 9.0 won't install anymore, install PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror to port 5434. And reimport your hands into a new database.

Ok I proceeded to download and install postgreSQL 9.0.4.1 and I believe it upgraded the older program to the one I installed. Now when I open HEM, HEM opens and at the top of it, it has the name of my DB. It dos not, however open to the import hands page. The page that opens is blank. When I go to a tab such as sessions or reports I get an error message popup which states "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click quit, the application will close immediately. Invalid access to memory location (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800703E6)."
