postgres installation troubles

in the postgres installation guide i get to step 9 and then a message saying the following comes up;

data directory error

the specified data directory is not empty

if you have an existingdatabase with the same major version number,
you do not need to initialize a database cluster.
if you have an existign database with a different major version you need
to backup your old data base and create a new one.

i have been stuck here and have no idea what to do to solve this

If you have an old database that you want to connect to then untick initialise database cluster and continue the installation, if you dont care about the old database (also might be PT databases here) then just delete C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\Data folder and then continue the installation and it will do a fresh install
