View Full Version : HEM causing BSOD

Hello,

I was having BSOD's for ages now and could not trace it.
I have consulted an other forum to deal with this situation.
They traced it back to HEM.
I can post a link, but do not know if this is allowed?

HEM doesn't cause any Blue screens. Blue screens are caused by malfunctioning system drivers or defect hardware.

You should run a hardware diagnostic tool.

I was advised to uninstall HEM and see it BSOD returns.
If I do so, this will not be a problem for my serial key?

I have uninstalled HEM and the BSOD's are not happening anymore. Perhaps there was a corrupted file causing this?

I don't think so, HM uses a lot of system ressources like RAM and hdd space - so this is probably the root of the problem.

So reinstalling will most likely return the BSOD's? :mad:

Most likely the BSOD are caused by a bad cluster on your harddisk.
So whenever the file on this bad cluster is accessed your computer crashes.

If you had these crashes using HoldemManager, it's likely the file that's being accessed is part of your PostgreSQL database.

So:
-1 run a full scandisk
-2 reinstall PostgreSQL / HoldemManager
-3 create a new database<--

would exporting and reimporting my hands in my new DB be a bad idea in this case?

You can try to export the hands.
Though if you get a BSOD during the export, it's because the corrupted database is causing it.

I did these 3 steps, have not reimported my DB.
Problem is still there.

I ran chkdsk from prompt menu which came up clean.
I also ran SFC/SCANNOW, also clean.
I am not familiar with "SANDRA".

I also just now did a HD check and a memory check with HP diagnostic tool, both came up with no issues

Reinstall HoldemManager / PostgreSQL: install them to a different location.
(and try a different version of PostgreSQL installed to a different port, for example 9.0.4 to port 5433)


You never get BSOD when you're NOT using HoldemManager?

If I were to return to factory settings, and my hardware is ok, would this 100% solve my issue?

Because I'm getting tired of this issue and I don't have any vital info on it.

We can't give you a guarantee that this will work. Something on your computer will cause this issue.

try running a memtest:

From my experience I tend to agree with the mod, this seems like HEM is putting too much stress on your machine and some hardware component is failing intermittently.

Do you have a laptop that's overheating or something

Ive ran several memtests from windows and HP, all came out ok.
Ive done a complete format and reinstall to factory settings, installed HEM+Postgresql+pokerstars.
Let the computer update itself. Thats all I did.
Blue screen again. Would I be correct in saying this is pretty much 99% a hardware problem?
When I got the computer, it used to run everything fine.
If hardware problem, what component would be most likely?

Oh and Ive done a heat check with speedfan, temps came out normal.

I'd say some kind of HW problem, but I can't be sure what.

Last time I saw something like this, I had to change the motherboard on my friend's computer. It was quite strange: World of Warcraft would randomly reboot his computer, but every other game would work just fine. After I changed his motherboard, no more issues.

Try leaving something like Prime95 Free Software - GIMPS (http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/) running overnight and see if you have any issues. It is difficult to pin-point which component TBH, it's trial and error mostly.

First try and reproduce your issue with some other kind of stress-testing software, then swap components (hopefully from another computer you own to keep costs down) until you find the one that broke things.

Its a notebook, so Im very hesitant to do the work myself. Ill download and run that program tho!

It might be caused because 1.11.07 is using an unusually high amount of CPU processing.
Try removing the 4 Windows updates, and downgrade back to 1.11.06g

Hi,

I was already having problems, 1.11.07 may cause the crash to start sooner, but I cant be sure.
