Which Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

If you use Norton, read:

Make sure Norton doesn't delete/block hmimport.exe

avast. im no computer expert, but nothing from avast pops up or appears to be obviously preventing HEM from operating. it just freezes up after i open the program.

edit: i tried using the "windows 7 solution" for crashes/freezes, and the following popped up during the update:

the package was unable to replace the following file(s). C:\Program Files(x86)\RGVsoftware\Holdem Manager\HMImport.exe ; \mono.security.dll ; \Npgsql.dll

Reboot your computer.
Run the update again: http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate.exe

Which error do you get when you start HoldemManager?
If you get a "not responding" error during the database update, just wait. It will unfreeze when it's finished.

If HoldemManager opens, but then auto-closes in a split-second. Check if you have hmimport.exe in the HoldemManager folder.
