This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.
First try to reboot.
If no help, try this:
Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service
Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service
If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.
If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely

Do the PokerStars hands import?
Are the PokerStars tables detected in TableManager?
Set the PokerStars lobby language in English.

Hello,
It was a problem of path : the table was detected, but the path for hand histories wasn't the default path.
It's OK now.
Many thanks

Turn on the secondary logon:
The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also.
Then install PostgreSQL with the 8.4.4 installer from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org)

Hello, i have a simmilar problem.
I've just purchased HM, but when the PostgreSQL was being installed, right at the end an error occured. So now everytime i start HM i'm being told that there's been an error connecting to the database, and the new window that opens open doesn't help me either.
I've unninstalled and re-installed 2 different version of SQL, and they have installed successfully, but i get the error message still.
Please help me if you can :)

Which versions did you install?
Did you install them to a different port number, for example 9.0 to port 5433, or 8.3 to port 5434?
In Database Management (=dbcontrolpanel.exe) make sure you change the port number.
Don't install several versions of PostgreSQL to the same port.
Try PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror (http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/download/mirrors-ftp/binary/v8.2.20/win32/postgresql-8.2.20-1.zip) which will always run.

hey, thanks for the quick answer.
I'm sorry but i'm a loser when it comes to computers. It is possible that i did what you said, but i dunno how to fix it.
You are basically saying to unnistal PostgreSQL again, and use the link you provided? Do i have to do anything alse?
Really sorry for being a pain, but i'm not quite sure what to do. Step by step instructions would be invaluable
Thanks for your help

Uninstall all PostgreSQL installations.
Install 8.2.x (link above) to port 5433.
Run dbcontrolpanel.exe--> connect to port 5433
