I'm using Holdem Manager 1.07 and Postreg 8.3

First, when I install Postgre I get a few error messages during the installation. I'll describe that now.

During the portion of install where it says "Activating
porcedural languages..." I get an error message that
says: "Failed to connect to the database. Procedural
Languages files are installed, but are not activated
in any databases.

Then I get another message right after:
could not connect to server: Connection refused
(0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host
"127.0.0.1" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?
(The only button to click is OK)

Then during the portion of install where it says
"Activating contrib modules..." I get a pop-up
that says: "Failed to connect to the 'template1' database.
Contrib files are installed, but are not activated in any
databases.

Then I get that same exact message right after again:
could not connect to server: Connection refused
(0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host
"127.0.0.1" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?
(The only button to click is OK)

When I start Holdem Manager I get a pop-up message that says:
Holdem Manager has determined that you are running
Microsoft Vista. In order to have Holdem
Manager run well you should disable User Access
Control in your Control Panel - Users section.
This is needed in order to properly install Postgre.

(my comment: first of all, the only thing I see in Control Panel is called User Account Control, and I've turned it off and restarted. Is the error message worded wrong, or am I missing what it's talking about?)

When I try to connect:
A connection to PostgreSQL could not be made.
Would you like to have Holdem Manager
attempt to start the service?

No matter if I press Yes or No it says:
Sorry, Holdem Manager was unable to start
the service.

Then I press OK and it says:Holdem Manager has started the
service. Please try again.

[I]I've tried every solution in the FAQ including reinstalling Postgre, making sure my firewall is allowing the program to run, etc and nothing has worked.

Did PostgreSQL install successfully, usually when you get those errors it rolls back and dosent install, please go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services and see if PostgreSQL service is installed?

Yes, in control panel, admin tools, services it was there.

I just noticed that the installation guide from the main page and your installation guide in the FAQ section are different. In the FAQ section the guide for the "Initialize database cluster" page does not say to switch the Encoding for (server) and (client) to SQL_ASCII, it just leaves them as win1252. Also, when I just now tried to switch it to SQL_ASCII to try to reinstall it, SQL_ASCII is not an option. Why is that? Does it make a difference?

One more question also: on the login screen for HEM, it says Login Name: postgres but should it say: postgresuser now instead since during the installation I had to switch it to postgresuser because of the error message it brings up when the password is postgrespass...?

Thanks.

Can you uninstall PostgreSQL and then try this http://holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8182 and then reinstall PostgreSQL again
