View Full Version : HUD is laggy

I took the HUD out for a 20 table spin today and there are some problems. The biggest issue is that the hud makes PS tables quite laggy. A 500ms lag makes a huge difference when I'm 20 tabling.

Another thing is that the HUD flashes quite a bit sometimes, which is pretty distracting. In the end, I just turned off the hud as it was not very usable in it's current stat.

Any tips to speed up the hud or is this being worked on?

We're testing this with mixed results.

What are your computer specs?

Try adding hm2, postgres and stars, along with anything else you use (ahk, table ninja) to the allowed programs in your firewall. This will help with lag a lot of the time.

Intel i5 2500

Apacer SSD
Windows 7

I will add exceptions tomorrow and report back.

What are you running besides the tables and hm2 while playing?

TableNinja
AHK
Xpadder
Sometimes Chrome
No IM software

Make sure you allow table ninja and xpadder definitely, and ahk wouldn't hurt as well.

What firewall and antivirus do you have?

Sorry, busy weekend and no time to stress-test the HUD.

I use Windows Firewall and Avast.

Try adding avast to the FW as well.

What is your mouse situation?

What is your mouse situation?

MS Wireless Optical, although when I'm playing I frequently use an XBox controller.

desktop?

Let me know how things are after you've done the FW adjustments

Yes, desktop. I will probably test the HUD tomorrow as I'm pretty tired today.

Ok.

One thing that caused me to have some lag issues with lag was the receiver placement. I originally had my mouse receiver in a usb 1.0 slot on the front of my tower. I switched to the back and it cleared up for a little bit, but then I had more issues.

I upgraded my desktop and my connectors on the front were usb 2.0 and I switched my mouse and keyboard to those and have not had any issues with lag since then.

Sorry, this is actually a double posting since I got confused between this thread and another one about HUG bugs. I'll post it here just to clarify that there is still an issue with HUD lag at the moment.

With the all my programs added to the firewall, there was an improvement in the speed of the HUD. It now works faster but still seems to make the system hang every 5th or 6th table that needs action - this was with 13 or 14 tables open. The hang time is something like 500 - 1000 ms. Unfortunately it means that the HUD is simply not usable when so many tables are open.

I don't think this is related to anything other than the HUD since as soon as I close the HUD, the tables no longer seem to lag and multi-tabling is way smoother.

Try adding hudfuncsapps to your firewall - it's in the hm2 program files folder

Added, will report back when I have tested it.

How large of a DB is this?

SuperSized
07-11-2011, 05:40 PM
No difference in the lag with the firewall exception.

The db is over 1 million hands.

Try making an empty DB, 20-table 2nl and see if you still get the lag.

When I try this the HUD runs smoothly. Do you have any suggestions to speed up my HUD for my main database? Should I purge old hands?

First try importing a decent amount of hands into the new DB - last 3-4 months or so. Try it again and see if there's the lag.

I made a db and imported the last 3 months hands (100k) and it's still laggy to the point I can't really use the HUD.

We're working on how to combat this right now.

I am experiencing laggs too while the HUD is running. When I turn off the HUD everything is fine.
I used my old database from HM1 which is about 3,2 millions hands big.
I use Win7 64bit on a fairly good Computer with Sandy bridge processor and 8 gigabyte of RAM.
When I use HM2 the RAM usage goes up to 6,x gig and the CPU load deviates from 30 to 75. Compared to HM1 I only have 3,4gig RAM usage and about 5-20 CPU load.
And I am playing on Stars.

how many tables are you playing?

just out of curiosity, have you enabled NoteCaddy? It is tied into the hud quite a bit if you have it enabled.

I tested HM2 with like 15 to 18 tables. Usually I play up to 24 but I would have timed out everywhere because of the delay the HUD gave me.
I have Notecaddy installed on my PC but it wasnt running while I was testing HM2.
My HUD options say
[]show note caddy notes and
[]start note caddy report on HUD launch,
so no I dont think it has been running.

When I did this test last week, I found that 2million hands DB was pretty laggy. I recommend using a DB with more recent hands for right now until it gets figured out how to make this work more.

We've added a bunch of extra logging in some internal builds so I expect it'll be fixed soon - obviously this is a top priority right now and like udbrky said, until we get it solved use fewer tables, a smaller DB or HM1

When I was grinding hard before black Friday, I would filter to the last 3 months, so I'm not skewed by changes in player's games from when I played them 6 months ago.

Hi,

Can you try this version http://videos.holdemmanager.com/HoldemManager2Setup26July.exe and when you start to get the lag try and play through it for a while as it will be logging information. Once you do that before you close Holdem Manager please go to C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\HoldemManager and attach the log.txt file (log if youve extensions turned off) and email it to hm2support@holdemmanager.com with the subject: Urgent Att Morny and link to this thread also, this will help us narrow down the issue

I just send out the mail with the attachment!
the new version seems to work much better. The laggs appear no longer constantly. Every 15 to 30seconds Stars freezes for like 2 seconds when I a fold or raise button. The delay for opening the last played pot on a table seems to have a constant delay for like 2 seconds.
I guess the laggs started when Ive opened like 9 tables and I closed HM2 with 16-19 tables and the laggs didnt seem to get worse the more tables I added so I dont think theres no difference in laggs between 10 and 24 tables.

One more thing I noticed: the hero hud session stats on the tables arent working.

Did you try allowing stars, holdemmanager.exe, hudfuncapps.exe and anything else you use while playing in your firewall software?

Thanks for the info and I'm glad it's getting better. We only made a couple of minor tweaks and are waiting for the logs before we start focusing on specific areas. It will run really well once we isolate the problem areas

Thanks,

Yeah its really important for us to get the log files for us to improve this further so please send those as soon as you can
