Stats windows either on top of everything or nothing

When I replay a hand from the "Sessions" list, the player stats windows show up in the replayer, as they should.

However, from that point on, they are on top of everything.

Is there a way to avoid that?

Sometimes though, the opposite problem occurs.
They are only on top of the replayer window if I deliberately alt-tab til the show. If I don't they don't ever show.

Bug? Config issue? Me being dumb?

turn off/on (try both):
hud options--> table preferences--> force on top
hud options--> player preferences--> appearance tab--> fix my positions
