This post is by way of follow-up to e-mails with Fozzy at support RE: Hold Em Manager tourney HUD on PKR.

FYI:

Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2 (fully updated)
Windows Firewall, McAfee Anti-virus Plus
Language setting: English (USA)
Hold Em Manager 1.11.06g

AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 4200+ @ 2.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3800 Graphics
Dual Flat-panel HD Monitors

All the basic settings have been checked. Hand histories are being saved, table manager is running, and auto-import folders are set up.

************

The HUD is not working on PKR MTT (tournament) and SNG (Sit n Go) tables.

Cash tables work fine.

During a tournament or sit n go, the hands are being imported into the database and can be viewed. The active players window also updates with stats for the players playing in the tournament. The tournament appears in the tourney database. But table manager does not detect the table and there is no HUD.

Because the cash tables work, I am inclined to think that the basic settings are correct. And because the tournament hands and players are being imported, I think the language and auto-import folders are right too.

I have noticed that HM purges the hand histories from the folders. This is set to 15 minutes in the settings. I believe this is the default.

Note that the HUD is working and the HH files are there in the PKR program folder and HUD Data folder. The table appears in Table Manager. It was detected automatically and I didn`t have to use table finder.

This is right after the prior cash game. Note there are now two sets of HH files. However, this time Table Manager does not detect the table. The cash table Mandarin Kitchen still appears in table manager.

During the game the hands and players are being updated in the database, it`s just the HUD that doesn`t work.

If I try to use Table Finder I get the message that it can`t find any unattached hands. There are hands, however, because I can see them in Tourney/Results/Data View. If I drag the orange-x to the PKR window it does update the Window Title and Owner information in Table Finder, but no table appears in the Unattached Tables dialog or in Table Manager main window:

This example is from a Sit N Go. Multi Table Tournaments are similar and also don`t work. The HH filenames are a little different, as is the text in the HH files themselves (of course). I can post a sample tourney if necessary, but it is the same as the Sit N Go except for these points. It`s just that it takes a while to take the screenshots and prepare them for posting and an MTT, naturally, takes longer and costs more.

My thinking is that the Hand Histories are not being parsed correctly for tournaments and sit n gos. Perhaps PKR changed the format after the latest HM PKR updates. The hand history files PKR is generating for me are a little different than the samples posted online:

Note that my recent version has a space in the first line after the second pound sign (#) and also there are dollar signs ($) in the old version not present in the new one.

This reinforces my idea that the HH parsing is off. Especially because cash games work fine.

Thank you for your time,

FYI, I received a reply from tech support:

Apparently the HUD has never worked on tourneys at PKR, according to the bugs supervisor.

So there you go. On PKR, apparently the HUD only works for cash tables.

There are no plans to change this:

No, unfortunately the problem is with the way the PKR client creates and names it's table windows. I do not know the technical reasons why it is so difficult but the developers haven't been able to solve it and we have no plans for a solution at this point.

I hope they add this information to the FAQ in the PKR section. It might save some people a bit of time.

They made some suggestions for PKR users:

Try using the HUD Options > Launch Active Player Details Window (APDW) - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/122/Active+Player+Detail+Window

That isn't a HUD replacement but it should provide helpful to your in game decisions.

Tourney > Reports > [x] Use and group by currently active players instead of selected player, should also be helpful. You can then do other filtering like changing 'All Hands' to 'Today' or even use the main Filter/Edit options.

You can also use the Players (xx,xxx) > [x] Only Show Players Playing Now, but that will just lead you back to the same information that is in the APDW when you right-click any player.

Thanks to Fozzy at tech support for the help.
