When I try to start my HM, I get an Error box saying " Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immedealtly.
This type initializer for Module threw an exception."

Details Continue Quit

When I try Continue, nothing happens. HM tries to start up but it doesnīt.

When I try Details, I get this:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Please update to the latest beta - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/releases/82571-1-11-07-pre-release.html

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select properties... then select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab.

----

Run a manual Windows Update and install ALL updates.
Your error is being caused by not having installed all Visual C++ and .net framework updates. Those should all be included in the latest Windows Service Packs.

I did make an Windows Update manually, but for some reason it only installed half of the updates. As to why the other updates did not install I have absolutely no clue, but I am guessing this is where the problem lies. Once when I tried to install Net Framework 3.5 I got an error message saying I need to turn on or off Windows Feature. So, I when to "Turn windows features on or off" and tried to un-click the Net Framework box, but I got an error message saying it couldnīt do it properly.

I am using Windows 7, Firefox 4, AntiVir. I have made exceptions for HM and Postgres.
Your help is greatly appriciated.

/Johan

First try to reboot.
Run the Windows Update again.
Reboot.
Run the Windows Update again (repeat)

If most updates don't install, try to please reinstall your Microsoft .NET Framework:

1) Run http://rvgsoftware.fileburst.com/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip
2) Install this one: http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

I rebooted, ran WU and it managed to install 22 items. I then rebooted, ran WU again and it says that 22 updates failed. I tried again a few times, but keep getting the same message. So, for some reason half of the updates (22) can not be installed.

Is Windows 7 updated to Service Pack 1?
If it isn't you can download the service pack installer from microsoft.com:

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5842)

Also turn off User Account Control completely: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/30/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/

Now I tried the second option, I cleaned up the Net Framewoek and tried to install the new one. When the installation is almost done, I get the error message "You must use "Turn Windows features on or off" in the Control panel to install or configure Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1".

So I go to this map, but like I wrote earlier, for some reason when I try to un-click the Microsoft .Net box (which is blue instead of a V) I get the message "An error has occured. Not all the features were successfully changed".

It's a blue box on my computer too (not a "V").

Try to update Windows 7 to service pack 1

I managed to install some more files by shutting off the firewall and deactivate AntiVir and by installing some program I found on Microsoft, but still there is 2 files that fails to install (instead of 22) and one is the .Net framework.

I have also Validated my Windows and downloaded the first WSP1 using the link you posted. I reboot, try to install HM but get the exact same error box.

Try every manual .net framework installer from microsoft.com
Check if microsoft.com has a different .net framework cleanup tool.

If that doesn't resolve it, reinstall Windows.

Iīve tried to install the .Net Frameworks but it still did not work. I am starting to think that the problem probably lies in Postgres, since I also own PT and it can not connect to database either (obv I own HM too and I prefer to use HM way more). Any suggestions? Donīt want to reninstall windows just yet.

I got the same problem in Windows XP.
Till last week everything was fine, then, today, I got that error message.

I'm on Mac and have windows installed just to use HM. I didn't update any software, so, I have no clue of what changed in my setup to stop working.

Edit: Is the downloads links in this thread only for windows 7?

Download links in this thread are for ALL Windows versions.

If it's PostgreSQL related try installing SQL 9.0.4 (or even 8.2.x) to a different port to see if HoldemManager will open when using the different PostgreSQL version.
