I looked thru the FAQ and just want to double check before I re-install windows tomorrow.

To ensure I don't lose my DB and all my settings, hands, etc. all I have to do is the following, right?

1 - Backup all my DB's in PG Admin III as shown Here. (http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=182)
2 - Export all my hands as shown Here. (http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=182)
3 - Re-install Vista and HEM and PostgreSQL
4 - Restore my DB as shown in the first link and boom, done!

Am I correct in the above? I should note that I will be reinstalling Vista on C: but I have HEM and PostgreSQL currently installed on my M:. With that said, do I even need to re-install everything, since it's on a different drive (I assume I do since the registry etc. all gets erased).

Thanks fellas!

Steps 1 and 2 link to the manual:confused:

Anyway heres all the details you need

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=101

Also if you wont have full access to the database after you backup then also export the hands as an extra backup http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173

Ok sweet, I was able to follow those and got it up and running thanks!

One more question now:

On my old drive where I had PostgreSQL installed, the file is over 50Gig. The 'new' one that I installed, is just over 10Gig. Now my question is can I delete the old one, since I'm now using the one in the new location (different drive)? Or will I lose everything that I just restored?

Thanks again Morny!

Ok so just so i understand correctly, youve moved HM from 1 PC to another and now theres still a 50gb folder on the old PC, well as long as you followed the directions correctly and HM is up and running and your confident all the hands are transferred then you can delete the old one as it has no effect on the new one.

You're close.

Let's say I have 4 HDD's on my computer. C: (windows), D:, E:, and F:.

HEM and PostgreSQL USED to be located on F:. But with the new install of Vista, I have since moved everything (HEM and PostgreSQL) over to E: since it has more space etc.

I backed everything up as you previously spelled out on the F: and then 'restored' the DB on the new install of PostgreSQL/HEM on the E:. Yet there is still a 50GB postgreSQL folder on F:. THAT'S the one I want to delete.

On a side note, I am curious, though, assuming that I can delete the old postgreSQL folder that is 50+GB, how my new DB is 'only' 11GB, yet has the same information on it.

Thanks a lot for being patient and helping me out again, Morny!

Ok well the same principles apply just make sure youve double checked that all the correct number of hands are there before you delete the 50gb one

The reason the other one is bigger is because you probably didnt vacuum which reclaims space and also the pg_log folder can get pretty huge, these are just log files which dont need to ge kept but it can reach several gigs if you dont prune it often, see here for more details on keeping the log files small and also reclaiming space
