Recently I began being unable to connect to PostgressSQL when opening HM, which appears to be a common problem for many as of late. I get the 'failed to connect to 127.0.0.1' message. I proceeded to try many of the solutions in the forum, including uninstallling and re-installing the PostgressSQL, but had no success.

I believe it is a permission issue, but not being very computer savvy, I am having much difficulty finding the root of the problem.

I run Vista and have no anti-virus or malware programs running.

Do you have any suggestions?

Regards, Dan

Are you using any firewall?

What error messages did you get when you tried to reinstall Postgresql?

Im using Windows firewall but have tried turning it off without any success.

Please download and install postgresql 8.4 from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org).
If it fails try to install it to a different folder/Partition like c:\postgres or d:\postgres.

If that fails too try Postgresql 8.2.

For further help please post a screenshot of the error message you get during the installation procedure.

I have already re-installed. The same message that I receive is in reference to the 127.0.0.1 msg when I open HM

Hey I was having the same problem, so tried to download the latest postgresql.....but it requires my password?

I setup up HEM abut 2 years ago, where can I find my password?

Password is 'postgrespass'
If it doesn't accept that, delete the postgres user first.

click on Start and go to Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt

* If you are on Vista, rightclick and choose "Run as Administrator".

A black box should appear. Type 'net user postgres /delete' (without the quotes) and press enter.

The user is now deleted and you can (re)install PostgreSQL.

Pat,
Should I uninstall 8.4 before trying 8.2?

You don't need to uninstall SQL 8.4
Just make sure you install SQL 8.2 to a different port number.

(So if 8.4 was using 5432, install 8.2 to port 5433)

Pat,
Thanks for all the help but I think im going to reformat my hard drive and hopefully this solves my problems. Id obviously like to keep my HM database so can you kindly tell me how or link me to a thread that explains what I need to do to accomplish this?

Save your HoldemManager/Config folder (also save the HoldemManager/FishFinder folder if you use TableScanner), archive folder (C:HMArchive), and PostgreSQL/8.x/data folder

If you format the harddisk--> reinstall Windows--> move the data folder back--> reinstall PostgreSQL to that folder, there actually only is a 50% chance you'll be able to connect to the old database.

Savest would be to just create a new database--> reimport all the original handhistories.
