Hi,

my computer broke down 3 days ago and I just buy a new one. I recovered my hard drive with my previous database but I am not able to use it (and actually I don't really know how to do it...) with my new laptop.
Knowing that my previous laptop was working on Vista and my new one is working on Windows 7, is there something special that I should do ?
I always have my HMArchive folder in the case of...

thank you very much for your help.

You need to download and install the same postgresql version (from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org)) as you used on the old computer following this FAQ:

Hello, I tried uninstaling posgreSQL and installing again. I get error:

A servive (postgresql 8.4) already exists. please specify another name.

And there is just ok button - where I should specify the another name or how can I remove existing service?

I tried removing with this command:

sc delete postgresql-8.4

but also get an error:

[SC] OpenService FAILED 5:

Access is denied.

How to solve this?

You can try deleting or renaming the existing service in the windows registry.
Or there might be an option for the postgresql installer to use a different service name but for this you should look in the postgresql documentation on PostgreSQL: Welcome (http://www.postgresql.org)

thanks, I deleted records which contained postgre here and there in the registry and after rebooting at least I could start the instalation and not getting that message that this services exists :)
