The main FAQs can be found here but there are still work in progress so some areas may be incomplete. http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/

Do not do a clean install with just an update.exe, if you need to do a clean install, use the full installer, then let it auto update.

Where is my log file located?
Uploading log files are key to helping us resolve issues. They are located in the app data folder.

XP:
c:\documents and settings\{username}\app data\HoldemManager

7/vista
c:\users\{username}\app data\roaming\HoldemManager

For both, you have to show hidden files:

XP:
Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
Click Tools/Folder Options/File Types
Check Show Hidden Files
Click ok

7/Vista:
Same process, but click organize/Search & Folder Options/View

If you play on microgaming, your log files will be large. One way to fix this is to copy the c:\microgaming\poker\{yoursite}\gamehistory.dat file to a backup location (name them differently when you do) every month or so, depending on how many hands you play. Hands are just added to this file and are not able to be automatically archived. If you move this regularly, imports will not be looking at so many hands, and your log file will be smaller. The other issue with microgaming log files is being looked into.

These aren't finished yet but they should answer some of your questions. I've bolded the one about variables:

How to import your HUDs from 1.0:

Open the HUD Options on the ribbon bar
Click the Import 1.0 button
Import the prefs.xml file

You can only import the prefs.xml file, and not individual huds that show up in that folder. The prefs file will contain the information from 1.0 necessary for 2.0 to read the HUD. The individual HUDs do not contain this information.

For microgaming sites, make sure you have "use subfolders" unchecked in auto import folders.

Hi,

Everyone in the Alpha program will have HM2 licenses until we launch. If your license expired, please email bclearman@holdemmanager.net and we'll get you a new license.

Thanks,
-Brent

To run 1.0 and 2.0 at the same time.

Open the holdemmanager.cfg file in the holdemmanager app data folder (use notepad).

app data folder.

XP:
c:\documents and settings\{username}\app data\HoldemManager

7/vista
c:\users\{username}\app data\roaming\HoldemManager

For both, you have to show hidden files:

XP:
Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
Click Tools/Folder Options/File Types
Check Show Hidden Files
Click ok

7/Vista:
Same process, but click organize/Search & Folder Options/View

In the general section, add this line:

<Key Name="AllowHM2ToRunWhenHM1IsRunning" Value="True" />

With a less than sign in front and a greater than sign at the end

Click file, then Save.

you have to have hm1 open first, it won't run with 2 running.

How do I backup HM2?

Use the backup function in the database manager, then create a new DB and restore.

Note Caddy Notes:

Open Note Caddy in HM Apps
Click file -> synchronize -> export notes to text file

Note Caddy Definitions:

Note Caddy Definitions are in the app data folder

XP:
c:\documents and settings\{username}\app data\HM

7/vista
c:\users\{username}\app data\roaming\HM

For both, you have to show hidden files:

XP:
Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
Click Tools/Folder Options/File Types
Check Show Hidden Files
Click ok

7/Vista:
Same process, but click organize/Search & Folder Options/View

HUD Popups:
Open C:\program files\holdemmanager2\config (x86 if you have a 64bit OS)
Copy the popup names you've created
Paste into another folder

You can also export individual HUDs in HUD Options, save to another location, then re-import them later, if you do not want to backup everything.

If you get an error while updating that states that Hudfuncapps.exe cannot be replaced, then open your task manager (right click the task bar, choose task manager), close hudfuncapps.exe and click resume.

If you get an error saying that stat triggers could not be loaded, or if you get a crash when you open the opponents tab, then install the full version:
