hello,
I've installed HM on my C: disk and used it for about half a year. Now i noticed that mu hard disk was reaching its max. compacity so i wanted to move it to my much bigger D: disk.
And there i did something stupid, i tried to cut paste the PostgreSQL folder to the other disk. Soon i realized this wasn't going to work and I cut pasted it back. But know (obviously i guess) HM can't open the database anymore, showing these messages:

"The following error occured when trying to open the database: failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1'. "

and then:

Holdem Manager has determinde that you are running Microsoft Vista. In order to have Holdem Manger run well you should do the follwoing:

1) Disable User Access Control ............................
2)Right click holdemmanger.exe............................
3) repeat step#2 for hmhud.exe and dbcontrolpanel.exe

So, is there anyway i can reinstall HM (on the other disk) and keep my database? I haven't made a backup from HM, so do i need to make a backup in HM to keep my database?

Thanks in advance!

Reboot your computer.

Then can you do that first: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=34

I did that already. But because HM was working fine before, that can't be the problem, am I right?
I screwed it up bij removing the PostgreSQL from the program files directory and then paste it back. From that moment it didn't work anymore. Is there anyway to solve this?

thanks,
rudolf

I try to reconnect your postgreSQL to HM. This is why I posted this link: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=34

If you can reconnect postgreSQL, we can do a backup of your DB and after that I can show you how to transfert you DB on the other drive.

Thus, can you open HM now or have you the error?

You cant just copy and paste like that it wont work. You can try this but from experience this dosent work very often.

if you have installed postgresql again then turn off the service by finding PostgreSQL in the Start Menu and using the Stop Service option. If you didnt reinstall postgreSQL on the new system then delete that folder you copied and install PostgreSQL. Then delete the \Data folder in the new installation of postgres and copy your backed up \Data folder over. if you can't delete then you may need to reboot. (you dont need the whole postgreSQL folder just the data one.

Then in the PostgreSQL menu click on Start Service and if everything went right you should be able to connect to your old database.

I reinstalled postgresql on the old location (program files), and deleted the data folder and replaced it with the old data folder. Still no connection.

I searched again some FAQs and checked this again:
http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx (number 73).

But when i'm in the "make changes to your user account" screen in the control panel. All options (change password, remove password etc.....) are there except "change security settings".
My useraccount do is administrator.

I'm getting a bit tired so is ther e maybe some other way? like re-importing the files from HMArchive or is this a stupid question?

Thanks again,
rudolf

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx (numer 34)

I also read this one again. I checked the things under Vista Users. But doe i need to do eveything under "All users" as well? cause i can't find "administrative tools" in my control panel.

I reinstalled postgresql again and now without copying the old data folder back. And now HM can connect after I made a new database, and I can start HM.
Does this mean that it is impossible for me to keep my old data?

Is your old DB in the list of DBs in "Options => Database Management"?

#1 "Options" where exactly? I reinstalled a few times know so i'm starting to get a little confused. Should i follow the reinstall steps? Or the install steps? (from the FAQ) Should i untick Initialise Database Cluster or not?

#2 Is it possible to re-import the hand histories? i don't have them anymore but does HM store them somewhere?

Do you still have access to the C:/HMarchive from the other hard drive ?

If so then do this:
Uninstall PostgreSQL via control panel
Delete the C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL folder
Install PostgreSQL http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=176

Then create a new database and import the hands from the old hardrive in the C:/HMarchive section

Sorry for the trouble, but a quick summarize to be sure.
The old database & HM were installed on the C disk. Now I install Postgresql and HM on the D disk. And then i copy the HMarchive folder from C: to D:? Or is that not the way to import teh hands from the old harddrive to the new one?

No you go to the Import TAB in Holdem Manager and choose import from folder, then point it to the HMarchive folder and it will import those files
