Apologies if this problem has been enountered before, I really suck at using the internet.

I was just playing a few tables at Party with HEM running. My laptop crashed, and now on restart I can't open HEM anymore.

I get the message box

'An error occured while reading the config/HoldemManager.config file: Root element is missing.

Holdem Manager will now backup the old config file and create a new one for you.'

I click the OK box and then get the following error message

'Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue, the applicatin will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Cannot create a file when that file already exists.'

There are 3 boxes below the message, 'Details' 'Continue' and 'Quit'. Clicking Details reveals the following:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

If I click Continue then I get the HEM Initializing Database box for ages with nothing happening.

I then downloaded the HEM update as it had been a while since I last updated, but I still get the same problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Can you follow these instructions:

1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder
2) Uninstall HM via the Control Panel
3) Go to Program Files and delete the RVG Software directory, or the equivalent for Vista
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
7) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmUpdate1.08beta.exe
8) Test if it for a while and see if it work
9) Close down Holdem Manager and copy the "holdemmanager.config" file which can be found in the backed up config folder from step 1 and copy and overwrite it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder
10) Test if it works again for a while

Thanks morny. One problem though, the link below for the latest HM patch doesn't work.

Clicking it brings up a blank page '404 Not Found' and the message

'The requested URL /HmUpdate1.08beta.exe was not found on this server.'

I will open up HM and try it anyway.

OK I've got it up and running again, thanks for that.

However, my HUD settings have completely reset, as have the default stats on the reportst tab. Is there anyway of getting these back?

Thanks guys. I got it up and running again, although I experienced the exact same problem last night whilst playing on Party again.

Is this likely to be a problem with my computer, Party, or with HEM?

Basically I'm wondering whether I should stop playing at Party for the time being, as I don't want to have to uninstall, download and reconfigure my HUD every time this happens.

Not sure but it shouldnt happen again, next time if it does happen reinstall like i mentioned but dont copy over the config folder as there might be a corrupt file in it, so start fresh and reconfigure the Hud

This happened to me, but when I go to reregister the software I can't seem to locate the email with my serial number. Is there any way to retreive this?

Hey,

I have had the same error report. I have gotten it twice now whilst my harddrive was full. The first time i got it up and running again.
Right now i can't get it to work again. Everything seems to be working ok but thats only untill i get the update trough the link in this topic. After the update i get a error message: an error occurred while loading the prefs files. Everything also goes wrong when i try to copy the old config folder so i don't even bother to try that anymore. I would be very thankful if anyone had any helpfull tips or suggestions. My os is windows XP and i play mostly on lucky ace poker.

P.s. the first error i got twice when my hardrive was full

OK im not sure exactly what your problem is now, what is the 1st problem you come across now and whats that error and what have you done from this thread to try and fix it?

When I try to start Holdemmanager I get an error which says: an error occurred while loading the Prefs files: de objectverwijzing is niet op een exemplaar van een object ingesteld (in dutch my translation The rootelement is missing).
I only get this error error after using the update. Without the update everything seems to be working fine.
I have followed the instructions in this topic except for updating the config folder cause everything als seems to go wrong when i do that.
Thanks for your help
