I am using XP Pro 32bit and I already reinstalled postgres and went through the steps in the faq to add the safe programs to windows firewall. I tried turning off antivirus temporarily and it still didnt work. It was importing hands fine until I shut HEM down last and it hasnt gone back up since.

If you try to start the PostgreSQL service does it give an error?

ok so now this problem is reoccuring, but by restarting my computer and then shutting down and starting the postgres service it works. this is obviously insanely uncooperative. any ideas?

i uninstalled and reinstalled both postgres and hem after completely uninstalling any trace, and now it just freezes whenever i click a folder to choose imports. if i click import from folder or anywhere it just freezes..

it froze when i clicked 'select' next to folder name which is highlighted in the pic. it freezes quite often. i am on a really fresh install of windows xp pro sp3 so maybe i am missing something?

This is being caused by a firewall/antivirus type program interferring with PostgreSQL,

You should add exceptions to windows firewall and defender as shown in this FAQ http://208.109.95.123/faq/?f=171 and if the problem still persists completely uninstall any other firwalls/antivurses other than windows built in one and defender and do it one by one and restart until you narrow down which one causes the issues
