Hello

Just got HEM and it works perfectly on vista laptop, but it freezes my XPsp2 based computer.

I have tried uninstalling and installing different .net frameworks, had 3.5 sp1 initially. Have also installed and uninstalled the stable and newest update to HEM but all freeze up the system totally on the starting screen when it reads "Validating". If I start the DBControlPanel I get to connect to the postgreSQL
database normally. So that works but when trying to start the program itself the system just freezes and I have to manually reboot.

So I do not get to register it either.

Also a software called "poker grapher" started a few days earlier freezing the system when it was started, same way as now HEM, so it could be the same thing but I don't know what is causing this.

What can I do?

Please follow the instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling .net framework here: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=14

If the problem persists uninstall and reinstall PostgreSQL aswell http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177

Can you follow these instructions:

1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder
2) Uninstall HM via the Control Panel
3) Go to Program Files and delete the RVG Software directory, or the equivalent for Vista
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
7) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmUpdate1.08beta.exe
8) Test if it for a while and see if it work
9) Close down Holdem Manager and copy the "holdemmanager.config" file which can be found in the backed up config folder from step 1 and copy and overwrite it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder
10) Test if it works again for a while
11) Close HM and Delete all the contents of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder then copy all the contents from your backed up config file from step 1 into this location
12) Test if it works again

Thanks for the answer morny, but I tried these instructions but they did not help at all. And they really did not bring much new to what I had tried before I posted here.

Still the splash screen says Holdem Manager and Validating..
and then the edges of a window appear behind that and then the system freezes and ctrl-alt-del doesnt work.

Try to run it again so this happens then go to Contol Panel > Admin Tools > Event View and have a look in there to see if theres any errors or messages there that correspond with the time you tried to run HM.

After ruling out the other issues its looking very like a firewall/antivirus may be blocking them so depending on what the results from the above is well probably need to completely uninstall the firewall and antivirus to rule them out as more often than not disabling them dosent fully stop them blocking some programs

It works now. Had to uninstall firewall software and get another one that does not cause problems with HEM.

Thanks for the help, morny!

morny, im in the same boat as TZO. in hte event manager each time this occurs i get a .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting as the source, event 1000.

i will try uninstalling ad-aware anti spyware as well, i had also uninstalled another antispyware program to no avail.

my symptoms have been the same as TZO. and ive been thru the postgre setup
