My old computer is windows xp and my new one is windows 7 (64-bit). When I try backing up on HEM, it says "Could not find PostgreSQL installation directory." I installed HEM on the new computer. Will I need a new registration code? Please help with the backup.

Thanks,

1) The same code can be used on 2 pc's at once and can be reset as often as needed.
To get your current license from your running installation of HEM:
start HM on PC where you allready entered serial code.
go to menu Help - register - show serial
this will not only shows code, but even copy it to windows clipboard

2) If you can't backup with internal HM feature, do this via PGadmin
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/72/Backup+%26+Restore+Database
and then restore DB on a new PC via PGadmin too

OK, I've backed up and restored on new computer and now I'm getting this msg when I start HEM on the new computer.

"The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue and the following guide will help you to fix this problem.

Go to Start > Programs (or all programs) > PostgreSQL 8.x > choose Stop Service

Start > Programs (or all programs) > PostgreSQL 8.x and choose Start Service. This may take some time and a black dos window may appear while it’s starting. If it fails to start delete the C:\Program Files\postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. Do not delete any other files

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily – http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/275/Windows+Firewall+%7B47%7D+Defender+Problems - Windows Firewall / Defender Problems

If none of those worked Please reboot and try following these FAQs, step by step:
