An error occurred while loading the Prefs. files: Could not load file or assembly 'System Xml, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Any suggestions? I've uninstalled using Revo to no avail. SitnGo wizard doesn't work as well.

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate.exe

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select properties... then select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab.

Try deleting the prefs.xml file in the HoldemManager/Config folder and restart HoldemManager.

Hi, I am currently using Windows 7, firewall turned off, with AVG as my anti-virus software. All of the executable applications are already set to run as administrator. I also tried deleting the config file, but it didn't do anything. I googled the error I had and was led to this: http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-general/16349-error.html which is the exact same error as mine. Do you know how that case was resolved?

Completely turn off UAC and reboot.

Update Windows 7 to Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (and install all additional updates doing a manual Windows Update)

Turn the Windows Firewall back on:
Add exceptions to the windows firewall for holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe, even if the firewall is turned off.

-->Right-click on the HoldemManager folder--> properties--> turn off the attribute "read only"--> Apply--> OK

In the other thread, it was suggested a full reinstall should fix the issue, but you already uninstalled with Revo/reinstalled.

Can you delete > \Holdem Manager\Importing\Config\prefs.xml (delete it again) and also delete, pospref.txt and pospref2.txt.

I think either your prefs file is corrupt (common problem, deleting it, and restarting HoldemManager will re-create it) Or... something on your computer is still messing with HoldemManager since you don't have super user administrator privileges.

If everything fails, try reinstalling HoldemManager with @ full installer @ http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe
but install it to a different folder.

I have the same error message and have tried all the solutions in this thread and the thread previously mentioned.
I'm running Vista. Is there a solution other than reinstalling windows??

Run a manual Windows Update.
Update Vista to Service Pack 2
Install all .net framework, and visual c++ updates.

Reinstall HoldemManager with the full installer @ http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe

If that doesn't resolve it:

please reinstall your Microsoft .NET Framework:

1) Run http://rvgsoftware.fileburst.com/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip
2) Install this one: http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

try to reinstall vc++:

VC++ 2005 and VC++ 2008:

I tried all the steps you suggested but still get the same error message. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks for your help

Did you delete the prefs.xml file? This should usually fix the problem. Its located in the folder c:\program files(X86)\holdemmanager\config depending on your windows and holdemmanager installation.
If you have "Hide known file extensions" enabled it may only been displayed as
prefs ..............................xml file
or something like this. You can ignore the other prefs files with numbers in their names.

Hi. Yes I tried deleting the Prefs file but still get the same error as mentioned in the OP. I have revo uninstalled HEM, uninstalled all .NET framework and run a full Windows Update. Then tried deleting the Prefs.XML file again, but no change.

Am I going to have to reinstall Windows to get this working?
Thanks for your help.
