Hi,

so postgres 8.3 doesnt work on win7 but 8.0 seams to work. basically i have the db created and can open hm but it doesnt import. i tried individually searching for files or folders. also version 7 of hm.

any thing i can do? i think some poker players have it working so shouldnt be difficult.

thanks

How do I get postgresql 8.0 installed?
I've downloaded some wierd .tar files from:
http://www.postgresql.org/ftp/source/v8.0.20/
but I can't find a setup.exe ? :D

They seem to have taken down version 8 from postgreSQL, probably dont support it anymore.

nevermind I have figurede it out. I just had to completely uninstall the version i got from here: http://www.holdemmanager.net/setup/postgresSql.html
and instead install the newest version from here: http://www.enterprisedb.com/products/pgdownload.do#windows

I uninstalled postgres 8.0 and tried installing psql 8.3 from the link above, but i can't get past the password window in setup. I've tried the password i used for psql 8.0, and the standard passwords i could find, but nothing works. I can't leave it blank either.

I've searched google for tips, but they all direct me to the text file where i should change the md5 to trust etc, but i no longer have that file after the uninstallation.

Do anyone know how or where i can fix this?

What exactly is the error your getting, maybe post a screenshot?

"The password specified was incorrect. Please enter the correct password for the postgres windows user account."

The password worked with psql 8.0 a couple of days ago. Is there any way to reset the password, or completely delete any previous psql account? I can't go through the installation w/o having the password, and i can't change the password w/o having psql installed. Kind of a pickle.

Im asking because your creating a password not entering one so it shouldnt matter thats why i asked for a screenshot as its a bit weird, maybe try using a different username instead but i cant see why they think the password isnt fine

Im not sure what the problem was, but I have run into a new problem now.

I googled some more, and found another HM forum thread with this link: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=176 which let me install postgresql.

The problem is I can't seem to get it running. When i launch HM i get the following error: "The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1'." I click 'OK' and another error occures: Holdem Manager has determined that you are running Microsoft Vista. (It's windows 7, but ok) In order to have Holdem Manager run well you should disable UAC (It's off). This is needed in order to properly install Postgre." I click 'OK' and get to Database Control Panel.

It lists following data: Server Name: 127.0.0.1, Port Number: 5432, Login Name: postgresuser and Password is what I chose earlier at the installation of postgres 8.3. I click 'Connect' and get this error: "A connection to Postgresql could not be made. Would you like to have HM attempt to start the service?" I click 'yes' and it says "HM successfully started the service, try again". When I click 'connect' again I get the same errors.

I have no clue how to post a screenshot, so i'm sorry you have to read all this. Does this give you any clues, or do i just have to go back to Vista?

Try to go through the installation process without changing the suggestions by the installer. That did the trick for me yesterday when reinstalling postgresql. Of course you will have to follow the faq in this thread step by step, but leave the service name, account name and account domain as is. Also, use different passwords for account and database. Hope this helps.

Morny is no longer working for HM but we have some other very good support people ;)

@dersl: Can you explain your problem a little bit more? Don't try to install Postgresql 8.0 under Windows 7. Use the latest 8.4 and come back with your problems.
