Everything was fine, installed Kaspersky 2011 and it all stopped working. I have Windows XP and SQL 8.4.

i have to connect to postsql, i try to connect, and get the following message:

a connection to postgresql could not be made. would you like to have holdem manager attempt to start the service?
I select yes

next dialogue box says:
Sorry, Holdem manager was unable to start the service
select OK

next dialogue box says:
Holdem manager has started the service. please try again.
select Ok.

Also, I believe its not a firewall issue. Windows firewall is off. Kaspersky was unistalled. I tried the hosts file thing already with no sucess. When I click stop server it says postgres wasnt initialized, when I click start server it says target could not be found. Also there is no postmaster.pid file.

All right, just tried to logon using Local System Account and it couldnt be initialized either, because it cant find the target path. So I clicked properties and realized there is nothing written on the .exe pathway, but looks like there is a postgres.exe in ...\8.4\bin folder. Thats all I know. Help pls!

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.

If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely
