I just downloaded the latest upgrade and installed it. During installation it said "unable to replace holdemmanager.exe". But installation completed and said it was successful.
Now HEM won't launch.
Help please.

You get this becauase HM was open, check the task manager to make sure HM has no processes running and then reinstall the patch again or just reboot your PC and reinstall the patch before you run HM

Thanks for the help. I did make sure I killed HEM and the HUD before installing but some how I screwed up.

Have the same problem.
HM and HUD are closed but I alsways get that message.
Only reboot helps. Looks like some other app locks this file.
What's wrong and how can this be fixed?

It is most likely the HmImport.exe process which might still be running in memory. It is supposed to be closed down when HM closes down but sometimes it might be busy at the time and stay open.

Process manager doesn't show it. All HM threads look closed.

When your closing down HM, start by closing down the table manager, then click Stop import and wait for it to finish and then use the File > Exit to close. Also try this version http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Hm1.08Beta.exe
