The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also.

Also turn off Windows User Account Control and reboot.

If the combo installer than still won't finish the installation / give this error, download the manual installer from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org) instead.

Seems to be a permission problem. You have administrator rights?
Are you using any 3rd party firewall or any other security related tools?

clear your browser cache or use a different browser, redownload the postgres 8.4 installer from http://forums.holdemmanager.com/releases/60421-hm-1-11-06c-x-ftp-1r-1a-issue.html

Please save the download file on your harddisk, after completion of the download open the download folder and run the installer via double click on the file.

Use a different SQL installer from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org)

Try: PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror (http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/download/mirrors-ftp/binary/v8.2.20/win32/postgresql-8.2.20-1.zip)

ok i installed 8.2 and it works, but the entire reason i uninstalled 8.3 in the first place is because it was casing my computer to slow down and using 100% cpu. I was told to update postgres sql and that obviously didn't work

postgres.exe caused 100% CPU in Windows Task Manager?

What sort of CPU + how much RAM do you have?

We have an issue with large Stars tourney summaries which seem to freeze the import (although its still running). Could this be the reason?
