Been working fine. I did the update windows, turned of windows defender and firewalls off steps.

tried the start services and says error 5 can't connect to postgres

HEM 2 starts normal and opens like normal with stats and past sessions there then the error message pops up. Below the can't connect to postgres it says "connection string: server=etc.....

I'm extremely novice with computers .

Thank you.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue and the following guide gives a step by step guide:
http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1001/Can+not+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQ L+

If you continue to have problems, please duplicate the issue and send us log files with a detailed description of what you were doing and what problems you were experiencing:
- Open Windows Event Viewer's (Control Panel - System & Security - Administrative Tools or Start - Search - 'Event Viewer') - Windows Logs - Applications.
- Check for any errors and send the information (Save All Events As...).
- Please send your \HM2Logs folder files as well - http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1921/How+Do+I+Send+a+Log+File+to+Holdem+Manager+Support %3F

When sending any files please zip them (right-click - send to - compressed folder) before attaching them to an email. If the attachment is larger than 10MB please upload them to a file hosting site like dropbox, then right-click - 'copy dropbox link' and paste the download link directly into the support ticket email. If you have any problems with dropbox try using filedropper.com

can I just delete the whole thing and start over? This is all way above my head as far as computer knowledge goes?

Where in the FAQ did you get stuck?

What is the exact message you get?

Does a new database work?

Try creating a new DataBase and import a small portion of your \HM2Archive so you can see if the problem exists in the new DB - http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/3091/How+to+create+a+new+database+and+import+previously +played+hands
