First off, let me just say that HEM2 makes me want to kill myself. Why do I need A PhD just to be able to operate and problem solve this problem? I created a new database and imported 16000 hands from my old database but my personal I wrote are gone.

I tried the Windows 10 sub on the forum but I tried what is here:
Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: Can not Connect / Failed to Start PostgreSQL (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1001/Can+not+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQ L+)

All programs seems to be running fine, hands are getting imported. Note Caddy is living its own life, creating notes all on its own. I don't really know how to start or how to fix it. I don't know why I play poker and keep messing around with HEM, I can't be the only degen compulsive gambler here, right?

Personal notes you created in the HUD are not saved in the original hand history files that the sites write and we archive, and they are completely different from the notecaddy notes that are created during import. To restore your previously created personal HUD notes you would need to restore a database backup that had the notes in them also or import the hands then restore a .pghembk file that contained a backup of your [x] Player Notes.

I created a new database recently with all 16000 hands played. But I can't find my personal notes yet. How do I restore the previous database? Databse management import says "no HEM1". I can't remember where I stored my previous database.

Did you import those hands from HM1? Or your HM1/2 archive folder of original hand history files?

I need more details to be able to help.

If you were already using HM2 why did you make a new database exactly? And did you create a backup of your previous database and/or notes with the database manager?

I created a new database because HEM said it wasn't compatible with the OS, Windows 10.

I don't know what happened to the old database.

I would ask for my money back, but I'm just limit myself to telling everyone who asks about it, "no, stay away from Holdem Manager".

Screw this

Nevermind, I don't know how I did it.

HM2 is compatible with Win10.

This is why regular backups are a good idea. If your database becomes corrupt you can restore a backup and only have to import the most recent hands (that were played after the backup was created) and edit any tournament results if necessary. Here is a FAQ (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1471/How+does+Backup+and+Restore+Database%2C+Settings+a nd+HUD+configs+work%3F) explaining how to backup your database and all settings in one easy step.

The installation clearly said postgres was not compatible with the OS, being windows 10. I'm not lying to you.

When installing HM2 it told you the included postgresql version 8.4.2 was not compatible with Win 10? I don't recall ever seeing that message reported and we have many customers using the default version of postgresql that is included with our installer. At this point in the HM2 life cycle it is unlikely the developers will take the time to package a newer version of postgresql with the installer unless it is causing major problems since many of our customers have databases created with 8.4 and would want the same version if reinstalling. FWIW HM3 will not use PSQL at all.

If it gives you any concern you can uninstall postgresql 8.4.x and install a newer version like 9.0 or 9.2. I am using 9.4 without issues.

Here are the instructions if you want to install a newer version.

Make sure windows is fully updated until 'No New Important Updates are Found' (this may require multiple restarts and multiple 'check for updates'), including Internet Explorer (even if you use a different web browser).

Please note that reinstalling PostgreSQL will mean losing all your old data. If you have access to HM2 and your database was not corrupt then please follow these instructions (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1471/How+does+Backup+and+Restore+Database%2C+Settings+a nd+HUD+configs+work%3F) for backing up your database as a precaution in case you cannot reconnect after reinstalling PostgreSQL.

If you cannot access the database in HM2 then you can backup your database using this method (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/952/How+does+Backup+or+Restore+via+PostgreSQL+work%3F+ %28Advanced+Method%29) but if your database was corrupt then the best solution is to reimport all your hands from C:/HM2archive folder or if your pokersite supports it you can request all your hands and summaries and reimport them as restoring a corrupt database will just restore all the problems you had.

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.

2) Delete the \PostgreSQL\X.x\data folder that is left behind.

3) Delete the sub-folder(s) in c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\HoldemManager\Da tabase (XP - c:\documents and settings\username\application data\HoldemManager\Database).

4) run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator

net user postgres /delete

After you click 'Enter' for the code above also do that same for this code:

sc delete postgresql-8.4

and click 'Enter' again.

5) Restart your PC

6) Install PostgreSQL 9.4 from here (http://www.enterprisedb.com/products-services-training/pgdownload#windows).

7) Once installed you should disable the postgresql logging as instructed here (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1121/Large+Log+Files).

If there is still an issue, we need to know the error - it is in the temp folder - bitrockinstaller.txt file. If you can't see it, turn off the windows option (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/130/How+to+See+Hidden+Files+in+Windows+) that is hiding that directory.

I'm trying to find the old database.

I get lost in the steps in your instructions and lost in the steps in the FAQs given on this site. It's so convoluted and complicated for me to get my head around.

Can I transfer my HEM license easily to Pokertracker?

Am I getting flagged for being too dumb to recover my database? Are you kidding me?

How is flagging me for asking for help beneficial to this site, the site's employees? Is this really helping customers? Come on, give me a break....

Does it show in the database manager list?

That is done in the forum software. It had nothing to do with the content there. All that will happen is Fozzy or I will see the post is flagged and it is not spam and allow it. Posting extra will not help in any way.
