View Full Version : HUD not showing up --- waiting for hands

Playing on WSOP NJ (888 software) and 888 NJ: My HUD was working fine 2 days ago. Now all of a sudden it will not show up and just keeps saying "waiting for hands" in the top left corner.

It is still importing. Stats show up in report tab.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

I've done most things in the above link. Nothing. HEM2 will open, but when I click the reports tab I get that popup and it has to close.

Update Postgres to a newer version.

Please note that reinstalling PostgreSQL will mean losing all your old data. If you have access to HM2 and your database was not corrupt then please follow these instructions for backing up your database as a precaution in case you cannot reconnect after reinstalling PostgreSQL - Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: How does Backup and Restore Database, Settings and HUD configs work? (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1471/How+does+Backup+and+Restore+Database%2C+Settings+a nd+HUD+configs+work%3F)

If you cannot access the database in HM2 then you can backup your database using this method: Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: How does Backup or Restore via PostgreSQL work? (Advanced Method) (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/952/How+does+Backup+or+Restore+via+PostgreSQL+work%3F+ %28Advanced+Method%29) but if your database was corrupt then the best solution is to reimport all your hands from C:/HM2archive folder or if your pokersite supports it you can request all your hands and summaries and reimport them as restoring a corrupt database will just restore all the problems you had.

Once you have backed up your previous database(s) then follow the instructions below to uninstall and reinstall PostgreSQL using the same database.

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.

2) Run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator and type the following and then press enter:

net user postgres /delete

3) You should get a successfully completed response if done correctly. If you get a permission type error you likely didnt run it as administrator as explained above.

4) Reboot your PC

5) Install the same version of PostgreSQL as your previous database using these instructions - Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: Reinstall PostgreSQL 8.4 while preserving database (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1591/Reinstall+PostgreSQL+8.4+while+preserving+database )

How long is the backup supposed to take? It said it might take a few minutes, but it has been running for a while and the status bar got to almost halfway and hasn't moved in a while. I had around 2,500,000 hands in the database.

It can take a while.

To help:

1) Make sure your drive has sufficient space - at least 10% free space + 2x the size of the database for file swapping.

2) Please see this FAQ to alleviate any security bottlenecks - Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: Set Correct Permissions on files and folders HM2 use (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/2561/Set+Correct+Permissions+on+files+and+folders+HM2+u se)

3) Empty the temp folders.

4) Save the backup to a different drive that has more space.

5) Please try to vacuum/analyze and reindex your database - Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: Database Manager (Ribbon) (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/5/Database+Manager+%28Ribbon%29#maintenance)

If you continue to have problems, try the following:

Try creating a new DataBase and import a small portion of your \HM2Archive so you can see if the problem exists in the new DB - Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: How to create a new database and import previously played hands (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/3091/How+to+create+a+new+database+and+import+previously +played+hands)

If the new database seems to work properly, it sounds like your database might be corrupt. Please continue to use the new database and import the rest of your hands using the steps above. This is why regular backups are a good idea. If your database becomes corrupt you can restore a backup and only have to import the most recent hands (that were played after the backup was created) and edit any tournament results if necessary. I recommend keeping at least the most recent 2 or 3 backups in case the most recent one does not restore properly you can try the previous backup.

Here is a FAQ explaining how to backup your database and all settings in one easy step - Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: How does Backup and Restore Database, Settings and HUD configs work? (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1471/How+does+Backup+and+Restore+Database%2C+Settings+a nd+HUD+configs+work%3F)

You can also backup notes and settings and just import the c:\hm2archive.

This worked. But now in the reports tab when I try to bring up the replayer view a hand the window pops up, but the hand never loads. Any help?

Also, when I click on the select player button and the window pops up, it shows a much smaller number of hands than will actually be shown when I select that player; do not know why.

Thanks.

What exactly worked? Did you create a new database? It sounds like your current database is corrupt so follow the second half of the post above yours to try creating a new database if you haven't yet.

You can also backup notes and settings and just import the c:\hm2archive.

If you already have created a new database and are having these problems it sounds like your postgresql installation is damaged and will have to be reinstalled.

Which Operating System, Firewall, and AntiVirus are you using?

Many of those free Norton, Mcaffee, Comodo, Zonealarm, Avira, Avast, AVG, Bitdefender, etc, 'internet security' bundles will not work well with Holdem Manager.

Please do the following steps, so we can get your computer to a state that we know will work with Holdem Manager:

1) Uninstall any 3rd party security software (even windows defender or security essentials) bundles and dont reinstall them until after you reconnect postgresql.
2) Reboot your computer
3) Please install the latest version (http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_2_Beta.exe).
- After downloading, you should right-click the file, go to properties and click unblock.*
* If you do not see an 'unblock' option you can ignore this step.
- Then, right click the file and run as administrator.
4) Enable Windows Firewall's recommended settings (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1011/Software+Security+Problems+%28Firewall%29#MSES) through your Control Panel, turn off Windows Defender (unless you are using Windows 10, in which case it should be enabled), and add firewall exceptions for HM and SQL.
5) Install Microsoft Security Essentials (unless you are using Windows 10) for antivirus/malware protection and update it - Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows (http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/)

If you continue to have problems you can try to reinstall the same version of postgresql and reconnect your database:

Make sure windows is fully updated until 'No New Important Updates are Found' (this may require multiple restarts and multiple 'check for updates'), including Internet Explorer (even if you use a different web browser).

Please note that reinstalling PostgreSQL will mean losing all your old data. If you have access to HM2 and your database was not corrupt then please follow these instructions (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1471/How+does+Backup+and+Restore+Database%2C+Settings+a nd+HUD+configs+work%3F) for backing up your database as a precaution in case you cannot reconnect after reinstalling PostgreSQL.

If you cannot access the database in HM2 then you can backup your database using this method (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/952/How+does+Backup+or+Restore+via+PostgreSQL+work%3F+ %28Advanced+Method%29) but if your database was corrupt then the best solution is to reimport all your hands from C:/HM2archive folder or if your pokersite supports it you can request all your hands and summaries and reimport them as restoring a corrupt database will just restore all the problems you had.

5) Install the same version of PostgreSQL (http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/postgres84) as your previous database using these instructions (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1591/Reinstall+PostgreSQL+8.4+while+preserving+database ).

If none of that helps you will have to reinstall postgresql from scratch:

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.

2) Delete the \PostgreSQL\X.x\data folder that is left behind.

3) Delete the sub-folder(s) in c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\HoldemManager\Da tabase (XP - c:\documents and settings\username\application data\HoldemManager\Database).

4) run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator

net user postgres /delete

After you click 'Enter' for the code above also do that same for this code:

sc delete postgresql-8.4

and click 'Enter' again.

5) Restart your PC

6) Install PostgreSQL 9.0 or 9.2 from PostgreSQL.org (http://www.enterprisedb.com/products-services-training/pgdownload#windows)

7) Once installed you should disable the postgresql logging as instructed here (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1121/Large+Log+Files).

If there is still an issue, we need to know the error - it is in the temp folder - bitrockinstaller.txt file. If you can't see it, turn off the windows option (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/130/How+to+See+Hidden+Files+in+Windows+) that is hiding that directory.

We will also want to see a set of the \HM2Logs files (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1921/How+Do+I+Send+a+Log+File+to+Holdem+Manager+Support %3F) sent via a support ticket.

When sending any files please zip them (right-click > send to > compressed folder) before attaching them to an email. If the attachment is larger than 10MB please upload them to a file hosting site like dropbox, then 'copy public link' and paste the download link directly into the support ticket email.

I had already previously uninstalled and reinstalled postgresSQL.

The replayer is actually working fine now; don't know what changed. Just a few weird things I have noticed so far:

1. As mentioned when I go to the select player window the number of hands is not the same as I see after I actually select the player. For instance, in that window one of my screen names shows 1,338 cash game hands, but when I select it, it shows stats on 409,370 hands. The latter is definitely the correct number (or closer to the correct number at least); and

2. While in the reports tab if I click the button that usually lets you select a player, I can only select from a few recently selected players; there is no way to get to the window to type in a name. If I go to the home tab, then I can get to the window to type in a name.

EDIT:

I was wrong. The replayer always opens the same hand no matter what hand I click on. And the view hand does not work.

I am running Windows 7.

Yesterday:

I exported all hands from my current database into a folder. I created a new database. I imported all of the hands from the folder to the new database and imported all hands from the HM2archive folder to the new database. I also did the vacuum/analyze and reindex on both databases. I also went through all folders and did the uncheck read only and set permissions and add postgres as a user thing. I enabled the recommended settings on Windows Firewall and turned off Windows Defender. I had removed Avira from my system a while ago when I first started having problems and yesterday I also installed Microsoft Security Essentials and set the excluded processes as explained here: Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: Software Security Problems (Firewall) (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1011/Software+Security+Problems+%28Firewall%29#MSES)

I had already previously uninstalled and reinstalled postgresSQL.

As of now, in the current database the hand replayer and view hand still don't work right (I haven't tried the HUD). The new database seems to work fine so far (I haven't tried to use the HUD yet ---- [the new database also seems to have the same HUD settings that I set up in the current database - I wasn't expecting this and don't know if it should or if that is some indication of some issue]) except for the following issues I have noticed:

1. When I am in the report tab and click the button to change player, I can only select recently selected players; there is no option to select where I can type in a name. If I go to he home tab, I can select an option to type in a name. This is only somewhat annoying, but is there a reason this would happen and a way to fix it?

2. Player alias does not work. I set up an alias with 3 screen names under it. In the report tab each screen name alone shows hands. When I select the alias name, the screen says that there are no hands imported. Any thoughts?

3. Approximately 40,000 hands that I played since 2014 that were in my old database are not in the new one. The main part of this seems to be approximately 37,000 or 38,000 hands from 888 NJ that were played in 2014 are missing. My new database has some hands from that site from 2014, but about 37,000 or 38,000 less than my old database. I cannot figure out why these hands are missing and how to get them from the old database to the new database. Is there some way I could get these hands from somewhere to import into the new database.

I didn't check number of hands from pre-2014, but I'm not too worried about those because I think I still have folders where the sites e-mailed me all of those hands that I could reimport. I e-mailed the post-2014 sites and asked if they could e-mail me all hands played, but I haven't heard back yet and am not sure if they can; if they can, then this issue would be moot.

Thank you.

EDIT:

For clarity, at this point, I think the "current database" is not the database that I had the original problem with that prompted the start of this thread, but rather is actually a new database I created in which I restored the backed up original database and I deleted the original database.

So are you saying that the new database does not have the issues with the hand replayer/viewer?

1) You don't have Select player as the top option when you click the player name?

2) This is in the new database?

3) Are the original hand history files in the archive where you imported?

HUD is separate from the database, so it will still be there if you change databases.

Lego05

So are you saying that the new database does not have the issues with the hand replayer/viewer?

Correct. The hand replayer seems to be working fine in the new database; I don't think I actually tried the hand viewer and I am not home right now.

1) You don't have Select player as the top option when you click the player name?

If I am on the reports tab, then I do not. If I am on the home tab, then I do.

2) This is in the new database?

Yes. I think it is in both databases actually.

3) Are the original hand history files in the archive where you imported?

There are a lot of folder-subfolders-files for WSOP NJ and 888 NJ, which are the sites I've been playing since 2014, in the HM2archive folder. There are numerous subfolders with numerous files in them, so I don't think there is any way for me to confirm that all of the hands are there. I don't know why 37,000 or so of them that made it into the old database would not be there though.

With respect to hands played before 2014, I had HEM1 then and these hands aren't in archive folders anymore, but as mentioned in an earlier post, I'm not so concerned about these.

HUD is separate from the database, so it will still be there if you change databases.

Ah, that explains that.

Make sure the reports and filters are not corrupted:

Close HM2
Please delete everything in:

Win Vista/7/8: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\HoldemManager\Re ports and \Filters
Windows XP: C:\documents and settings\username\application data\HoldemManager\Reports and \Filters

Showing hidden files: Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: How are Hidden Files Viewed in Windows? (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/832/How+are+Hidden+Files+Viewed+in+Windows%3F+)
Restart HM2 and the issue should be resolved.

Sometimes the .net framework installation can become corrupt. This can cause several problems including freezes on startup, registration issues, crashes and more. The following FAQ walks you through safely uninstalling .net framework and reinstalling it again - Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: Holdem Manager .NET Cleanup and update Instructions (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1881/Holdem+Manager+.NET+Cleanup+Instructions)

And Please see this FAQ to fix Windows problems - Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: How to repair Windows files (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/3253/How+to+repair+Windows+files)

Try a clean install.

Please try a clean install of HM2. This will preserve your database and backup your HUD and settings.

1) Export any custom HUD configs.
2) Open the HM2 > HUD Settings > HUD Designer menu > Click 'Reset' > [x] All Configs > OK

Step 1 – Restore Default Settings:
First try restoring your default settings, often some settings files can become corrupt and cause these issues:
Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: Create a Backup and restore default settings (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/2511/Create+a+Backup+and+restore+default+settings)

Step 2 – Uninstall and reinstall HM2 with Revo uninstaller:
Other times critical system files may not have been installed on previous updates and it can also cause these types of errors or in some cases antiviruses may have removed files that it mistook for unsafe. Doing a revo uninstall also removes old registry file information which might have become corrupt. You can download the free version here: Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems (http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html) and there is a useful tutorial how to use it here:
How To Use Revo Uninstaller To Completely Uninstall Programs (http://www.guidingtech.com/457/revo-uninstaller/)

Uninstall Holdem Manager 2 via Revo unistaller and then reinstall this version:
http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_2_Setup.exe

Please add this file to your firewall and antivirus exceptions and run it as Administrator.

Step 3 – Follow the steps in this FAQ:
Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: Set Correct Permissions on files and folders HM2 use (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/2561/Set+Correct+Permissions+on+files+and+folders+HM2+u se)

Step 4: If the default settings work, please use the FAQ in step 1 to restore your settings and test them. If the problems then return you will need to reset your settings to default again and use those going forward.

If you continue to have problems with the default settings, please reproduce the problem, describe exactly what you were doing, and attach your \HM2Logs folder -
Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: How Do I Send a Log File to Holdem Manager Support? (http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1921/How+Do+I+Send+a+Log+File+to+Holdem+Manager+Support %3F)

When sending any files please zip them (right-click > send to > compressed folder) before attaching them to an email. If the attachment is larger than 10MB please upload them to a file hosting site like dropbox, then 'copy public link' and paste the download link directly into the support ticket email.

With the alias, please send a screenshot of the alias screen, the player list with the # of hands showing and the reports.

You don't have a c:\hmarchive with the HM1 hands? Did you move some hands somewhere else?

I did not do anything, but it seems to be working fine now (didn't try HUD on sites yet).

But I cannot get hands played on one particular site from January 1, 2014 - June 30, 2014 into my new database.

My old database has the following number of hands from these months played on this site:

January: 1,007

February: 7,605

March: 8,552

April: 9,195

May: 9,581

June: 1,669

I export hands from the old database to a folder and then import them into the new database, but these hands never make it. Thoughts?

What is the site?

If you continue to have problems please zip and email the problem hand histories, with a link to this thread and your forum name, to us using the 'Contact Support (https://support.holdemmanager.com/support/product/1)' link.

All original hands that are auto-imported get moved to an archive for performance reasons. Your \HM2Archive is in C:\HM2Archive by default, but you may have put it anywhere. The archive should be organized by \Month\DayOfMonth e.g C:\HM2Archive\2009\07\31 or if it was auto-imported with v7283+ it would be in C:\HM2Archive\SiteName\YYYY\MM\DD.

When sending any files please zip them (right-click > send to > compressed folder) before attaching them to an email. Make sure you have the site screen name(s) selected and not the alias name that combines screen names. If you export an aliases hands and the exported file has more than one screen name in it only the hands for the first screen name the parser encounters will be imported so you have to export by individual screen names for importing or better yet just import the original hands from the \HM2Archive folder.

I deleted all aliases and exported hands from my old database and imported from my old database. I have also tried importing from the archive. Still not getting these hands.

I just checked and actually these hands are not in the archive for some reason. The site is 888 NJ. Below is a screen shot of my old database where you can see these hands. But I can't get them into the new database for some reason.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff293/Lego2005/888%20NJ%201-1-2014%20through%206-30-2014.png (http://s243.photobucket.com/user/Lego2005/media/888%20NJ%201-1-2014%20through%206-30-2014.png.html)

A couple other things:

I have like 1,223,777 hands on PokerStars from pre-Black Friday in my old database, but only 944,065 of them got into my new database.

And oddly, I have 30 more hands from Full Tilt pre-Black Friday in my new database than I do in my old database.

The new database seems to be working now, so I can use it. Just kinda annoying that I am unable to get all of my hands into the database.
