I just bought a new laptop w/ WIN 8.1. Harddrive is SSD if that makes a difference.

I downloaded the latest beta (1.14.01) and installed it. However when I try to start HEM I get problems.

First, this message

"Could not find the config/Holdemmanager.Config file. Make sure you are running HEM from the correct directory"

I press ok

"A connection to PostgresSQL could not be made. Would you like to have HEM attep to start the service."

I press ok

"Sorry, HEM was unable to start the service"

So what should I do. It's important to setup HEM asap. Thanks for the help, guys :)

EDIT: I'm running the program as an admin and the compatibility mode is WIN8.

Turn on the secondary Logon. The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also.

Reinstall PostgreSQL manually with the installer from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org), read: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can%27tConnect%7B47%7DFailedToStartPostgreSQL

The secondary Log-On is on.

I installed PostgresSQL 9.3, but it doesn't work. I didn't install the stackbuilder.

I'm still experiencing similar problems w/ HEM. I'm still getting the config error message when I start HEM

"Could not find the config/Holdemmanager.Config file. Make sure you are running HEM from the correct directory"

However, now when I press ok and try to start PostgresSQL I get the following message

Any thoughts?

Uninstall PostgreSQL 9.3

Install PostgreSQL 8.2 to port 5433: http://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/binary/v8.2.22/win32/postgresql-8.2.22-1.zip

Hey, Patvs

I followed the instructions, but it didn't work. I changed the port to 5433 (from the default 5432). This was the message when I tried to instal. Then the program started to uninstall itself (roll back). Any thoughs?

EDIT: Tried the 5432 port too, but got the same problem. No idea what to do to fix the problem.
Here's my settings for HEM if it helps any.

Go over:

http://forums.holdemmanager.com/general-support/346061-windows-8-upgrade-guide.html

For postgres problems with Win 8. It's a little different from Win 7.

The show hidden files is a little different.

It is located in the View - Options section. At the top, there are 4 menu buttons - File, Home, Share, View. Click the view. From there, it's just like in all other windows. Folder Options hasn't changed.

Getting to programs is a PITA without the Start menu. To run CMD as an admin:

go to the start screen, where it lists all your programs.

Right click in the bottom right, it shows "All Apps" button. Click that.

Go to the Windows section.

There, you see Command prompt.

Right click that, at the bottom, on the left, are options. Click Run as Administrator

Sorry, but I'm not sure I understand what do you want me to do? Detailed instructions would be nice.

I have UAC disabled if that helps. Didn't really understand the instructions :(

Why do I need to find hidden files and what do I do with them? I haven't even installed postgres yet.

I managed to change Command Prompt to run as admin. PostgresSQL still doesn't want to install itself.
The instructions in the link you gave are quite vague and I haven't found it very useful. Please provide another solution asap, thank you

If anyone has a solution to my problem in less than 12hours it would be great. Thanks for the help.

You'll need to add these files to the steps in this FAQ:
- holdemmanager.exe
- hmimport.exe, hmhud.exe

The steps are the same, as it is for Windows, rather than HM.

Thanks for the numerous links I guess. I think I can manage the HEM part with the advice given.

HOWEVER, I cannot install HEM before I can install postgresSQL. I cannot do this because I keep getting this error message when installing postgresSQL 8.2. I've tried making ports available and working the firewall. WHat can I do to install postgresSQL?

Postgres: Gyazo - 25ec6623ec32e713ff893c2adb56c44e.png (http://gyazo.com/25ec6623ec32e713ff893c2adb56c44e)

I tried to install 1.12.10b, but didn't work (w/pSQL)

I consider myself capable of handling small comuter problems, but I just have no idea what to do here. It's very important I get HEM to work asap. It's beginning to look like WIN8.1 and HEM aren't compatible at all?

Just to clarify. the problem with the config file can be fixed by downloading the hem1 combopack (w/postgresql). Not just the update.

That makes sense. You always have to do a full setup if it's on a clean install.
