Hi,

I am running a new computer - Windows 8, i7 3770k, 32GB ram, 256 INtel SSD
I have the latest version 1.13.01 internal

I installed HM1 and restored my database, but it takes a long ass time to load every time I open HM1. It gets past the loading screen ok, but once I select session or report tab, it almost freezes my computer for 2-3 minutes (even whtn the tab is set to just load this month, or today) Once it gets over this, it seems to run fine, when I am playing etc.

Anyway, the same DB on my old compiter (i7 cant remember spec but worse than new one , 8gb ram, 256 SSD also) the same databse always run fine with no loading problems on any screen, except taking a coupl;e of minutes if I Try to load "all hands".

How can this be fixed?

Thanks

Which PostgreSQL version are you using?
Also read:

Postgres 8.4, the one that comes combined with the HM1 installer

All of those tips are good, but it shouldnt lag this much just on load up, especially on a computer this fast

Is that post above by VinnyCout on a newer version legit?

Yes, the latest build is: http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate_Release_1.13.02_05Aug2013.exe
Also update to that build.

I updated to that build, but it is still loading Report/Session tab at a speed that turns my whole computer into a crawl/makes it unusable for a few minutes
Should I reinstall postgres or something?

Which Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Add postgres.exe and port 5432 to the exceptions list of the Windows Firewall, your firewall, and anti-virus program.
(add it as exception to Windows Firewall, even when Windows Firewall is turned off!)

You can try, vacuum/analyse/reindex the database in pgadminIII.

If that doesn't resolve it: (since you have a Windows 8, i7 3770k, 32GB ram, 256 INtel SSD)
Install PostgreSQL 9.0 x64 (64 bit version) to port 5433 with the installer from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org)
Options--> Database Management--> Connect (to the new port 5433)--> Create New Database--> (set it as default)--> Start HoldemManager

And reimport all your hands into a new empty database.

I just have Avira Free and Windows Firewall

Postgres is already allowed in my firewall.
How do I add ports?

If I install a new psotgres, can I backup/restore my databse instead of creating a new one?

If you install a different version of PostgreSQL to a different port, it's not possible to backup/restore your existing database. You'll have to reimport all the handhistories into a new empty database.

I installed the new Postgres, and created a new DB, but having the same problem (Computer is running perfectly otherwise)

Does this mean its definitely a Windows Firewall/Anti-Virus problem? I have the exceptions added in both, so I dont know what to do

Does the long startup / freezing, also occur in a empty HM1 database?
Which version of PostgreSQL did you end up installing?

Do you have Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 beta?

For Windows 8 also read: http://forums.holdemmanager.com/general-support/346061-windows-8-upgrade-guide.html

For postgres problems with Win 8. It's a little different from Win 7.

The show hidden files is a little different.

It is located in the View - Options section. At the top, there are 4 menu buttons - File, Home, Share, View. Click the view. From there, it's just like in all other windows. Folder Options hasn't changed.

Getting to programs is a PITA without the Start menu. To run CMD as an admin:

go to the start screen, where it lists all your programs.

Right click in the bottom right, it shows "All Apps" button. Click that.

Go to the Windows section.

There, you see Command prompt.

Right click that, at the bottom, on the left, are options. Click Run as Administrator

Just Windows 8 O believe, under Windows Edition it says Windows 8 Pro. I have it set up to run pretty much like Windows 7 though, with Star8 and other programs to give you start menu etc, and showing hidden files is fine

I installed the one recommended in this thread, 9.3

Will test on an empty database

Just to clarify, if I open it and run auto import and play tables, it runs fine. Its when I try to enter Reports, or Sessions, that the issues arise

Empty DB it loads the session tab etc fine, jsut says you have not selected a player to run it against

I did a new DB, and imported 20k hands to test, and when I try to load session tab it totally hangs for like 30 seconds, same as in my normal sized database

Don't use 9.3.

Install 8.2, 8.4, 9.0 or 9.2.
(don't use 9.1 or 9.3)

When you install it, install it to a different port as your were using before, so if the default port was 5432, install it to 5433, or 5434, etc.
