Hi

We'll take it from the top.

I have used HEM since the start and been a satisfied user up till this point.

It started a couple of weeks ago, when i tried to start my HEM and got the common error, which I btw. have had many times over the years.
113961

I use to just reinstall PostgreSQL whenever this error pops up and I can't start the service.

Then as usual i tried to reinstall, but this time I got a new error. I couldn't even install PostgreSQL because of something with initdb that create the new database cluster
113971

This was the first time, and after spending more than six hours trying to fix this error, with every solution on google it still didn't work. Now I was pissed and the only thing that could save me was to install a new windows partition.

--> Fast forward

After I had installed a new clean windows partition, I started to install all of my old applications, settings, configurations and so on. Now my HEM and postgresSQL was working and everything was back to normal......... until the next time where I started HEM and got the service error. I then tried to reinstall PostgreSQL as always, and NOW im back to the same F....... error with the initdb has stopped working when trying to initialize a new database cluster.

I have never had any problems with permissions, versions, antivirus and so on.

PLEASE help me how to fix this error, cause I have no more clues what to do, and I can't keep installing new partitions every effing time it don't work.

I have tried any version of Postgres, HEM1 and HEM2. Still get the same error and it just uinstall before it get installed.

Last time I think it was something with a .dll file missing so the initdb application couldn't start, but with a new windows partition, I really doubt that that can be the error.

Regards

A VERY FRUSTRATED PAYING CUSTOMER

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Make sure windows is fully updated until 'No New Important Updates are Found' (this may require multiple restarts and multiple 'check for updates'), including Internet Explorer (even if you use a different web browser).

Many of those free Norton, Mcaffee, Comodo, Zonealarm, Avira, Avast, AVG, etc, 'internet security' bundles will not work well with Holdem Manager.

Please do the following steps, so we can get your computer to a state that we know will work with Holdem Manager:

1) Uninstall any 3rd party security software bundles.
2) Reboot your computer
3) Please install the latest version: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_2_Beta.exe
4) Enable Windows Firewall's recommended settings through your Control Panel, turn off Windows Defender, and add firewall exceptions for HM and SQL - http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1011/Software+Security+Problems+%28Firewall%29
5) Install Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus/malware protection and update it - Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows (http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/)

I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed.

I would prefer if HEM 1 could work. I donøt know if its the same procedure with HEM1 since your answers is about HEM2.

Do you want me to uinstall Security Essentials, and reinstall it again after the first couple of steps?

Also, I can see that you have written nothing about PostgreSQL, and thats my problem. I can't install HEM because of the PostgreSQL issue. Do you want me to install HEM first without installing postgreSQL?

It's the same steps for HM1.

You don't have to reinstall HoldemManager, if you have PostgreSQL connection issues.
Instead, only reinstall PostgreSQL manually with the installer from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org).

Read: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can%27tConnect%7B47%7DFailedToStartPostgreSQL , and http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/70/ReinstallPostgreSQL

If PostgreSQL 8.4.x won't install, install, http://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/binary/v8.2.22/win32/postgresql-8.2.22-1.zip
8.2 will always run.

Come on guys. Please look what I am writing...... There are no problems with HEM, but I CANT install postgresql. Look at the screendump in the first post. initdb initialize a new cluster has stopped working

@Patvs

Have also tried Post 8.2 - Same error every time, and when the error pops up, it roll back the installation.

This thread is (was, as I am moving it to HM1 now to avoid further confusion in the future) in the HM2 forum and one of your screen shots showed the HM2 installer so I mistakenly assumed you were using HM2 in addition/instead of HM1 so I apologize for that.

Pat gave you links to FAQs explaining how to fix postgresql issues by making sure all the necessary exceptions were set as well reinstall postgresql.

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) Use our combo installer to reinstall PostgreSQL. Make sure you un-check Holdem Manager during installation. http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe

If that installer fails to install PostgreSQL, please reinstall PostgreSQL using the following instructions:

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator

net user postgres /delete

4) reboot.
5) Install PostgreSQL 8.3.9 from this link (and/or any of the packages from postgresql.org) - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Postgres_8.3.9-v1.0.7.exe
