Great, PostgresQL. I wonder why you had to run your program over that.

I've been using HEM for now 2 months without trouble, but today when launching it, I get the following errors:

''The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1.''

So then postgresQL pops up, I try connecting to 127.0.0.1. port number 5432, but it doesn't work. I've tried re-installing postgresQL but that lead to no-where.

what to do?

PostgreSQL is one of the most powerful Database available.

Are you sure that your login/password (postgreSQL) is correct?
Generally:

login: postgres
pass: postgrespass

Do that (see image below), and double click "PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3..." (below "Servers(1)")

Enter your pass.

Is your pass ok?

''Server doesn't listen
The server doesn't accept connections: the connection library reports
could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "127.0.0.1" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?
If you encounter this message, please check if the server you're trying to contact is actually running PostgreSQL on the given port. Test if you have network connectivity from your client to the server host using ping or equivalent tools. Is your network / VPN / SSH tunnel / firewall configured correctly?
For security reasons, PostgreSQL does not listen on all available IP addresses on the server machine initially. In order to access the server over the network, you need to enable listening on the address first.
For PostgreSQL servers starting with version 8.0, this is controlled using the "listen_addresses" parameter in the postgresql.conf file. Here, you can enter a list of IP addresses the server should listen on, or simply use '*' to listen on all available IP addresses. For earlier servers (Version 7.3 or 7.4), you'll need to set the "tcpip_socket" parameter to 'true'.
You can use the postgresql.conf editor that is built into pgAdmin III to edit the postgresql.conf configuration file. After changing this file, you need to restart the server process to make the setting effective.
If you double-checked your configuration but still get this error message, it's still unlikely that you encounter a fatal PostgreSQL misbehaviour. You probably have some low level network connectivity problems (e.g. firewall configuration). Please check this thoroughly before reporting a bug to the PostgreSQL community. ''

Now what?
I double-clicked the server and typed in postgrespass as password, and that's what popped up.

Ok, good, we know now that the problem comes form postgreSQL and not HM. I will transmit your problem to Roy.

Can you go into Start Menu - Control Panel - Services and find the postgresql service and the right click and select Start. If this does not work then go into your

c:\program files\postgresql\8.x\data folder and delete the postmaster.pid file and then try the steps to start the service again

Excuse my lack of knowledge about this, but there is no ''service'' when I go into control panel.

Can you completely uninstall PostgreSQL and delete the PostgreSQL folder from program files (make sure to backup any databases you have first) then try reinstalling postgreSQL 8.3

My issue is Also with "server not listening". I can't delete that postmaster.pid file because i don't have one.

I have a postmaster.opts is that the same thing?

I have the same problem, I started a thread about it a few minutes ago. My PostgreSQL would crash every time I started using HEM, so I decided to uninstall it and reinstall it, except I can't even install it anymore because it tells me that the user or domain or already exists. I don't know what to do.
