Install SQL 9.0 (or 8.4) to a different port (for example 5433) using the installer from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org)
Connect to the new port in dbcontrolpanel.exe (=Database Management) Create a new database--> and run a import from folder on your archive folder.

The "import from folder" that you say is done with HM, right? Is there any method to attach 8.3 database to new version? I have a very big database and if i import all the hands I could to take a very long time.

If there's nothing wrong with your SQL 8.3 database (no corruption, corrupt index), just stick with 8.3.
Using 8.4/9.0 won't result in faster import speeds.
To update an 8.3 database--> to 8.4 (or 9.0) an advanced SQL migrate script exists.
But I'd just leave on your computer for 24 hours, reimporting the original handhistories.
