PostgreSQL,

Sorry to start another of these threads but I just can not seem to find the answer.
I have again tried to use the combo installer, but i get this error message everytime.
I have checked my programs list, and Postgres is in fact listed as a folder with all components inside the folder.(Icon shows as pgAdminIII)
When I click 'more details' after the error message the problem I think it has is 'not connecting to database'.

I am getting hugely impatient with this as I am computer retarded. I have tried downloading from different sources, I have tried to manually connect to the database, I have turned off firewalls.

If anybody can give me a 100% accurate answer that I can understand I'll be forever grateful and ship you some good will monies!!!
Let me know if I can provide more details to give somebody a better understanding of the problem and my system.

Thanks guys :(

Make sure windows is fully updated and change your Windows Control Panel > Regional Settings Format to English (USA).

The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services > secondary logon > right-click > start AND right-click > properties > startup type: automatic.

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) Install PostgreSQL 8.3.9 from this link - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Postgres_8.3.9-v1.0.7.exe

Thanks for the quick reply Fozzy, I have done the above and tried to install from the link, how long should the download take? Becuase it appears to be getting half way through then stopping dead?

Try downloading and installing 8.4 from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org) instead. If that version fails to install try 8.3 and 8.2

I have downloaded the 8.4 version from the postgres website, I had to enter the password given from hold em manager to continue, this seemed to work, however I did get an error message at the end saying 'may not have installed correctly'

Program is now listed in prgram files, but when I open hold em manager it is unable to make a connection??? :( FML.

It has also created a new user account on my computer?

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I'm very close, have installed postgres, when I open hold em manager I get this message....
'The following error occured whilst trying to open the database. Unable to read data from the transport connection. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.'

It then opens the a window called 'Database control pannel' when I click connect it opens another window that allows me to create a 'new database'?

Am I close to getting running or am I still screwed?

Again, thanks for your support.

Did you try other versions of SQL.

START with:
-1 uninstall every installation of SQL
-2 delete all their folders
-3 install SQL 8.2.x to port 5432 - PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror (http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/download/mirrors-ftp/binary/v8.2.19/win32/postgresql-8.2.19-1.zip)

This SQL version will ALWAYS install.

If it doesn't email support@holdemmanager.com to setup a teamviewer session
If it does... you can try to install
SQL 8.3 to port 5433
SQL 8.4.6 to port 5434
SQL 9.0.2 to port 5435

And use the most latest version that works.
(also 8.2.x is just as good as 9.0... it makes no difference)

It appears to be downloading okay however when I try to open hold em manager it will not connect to the 127.0.0.1 database. I really wish I had not purchased this without installing first, im close to giving up.

I'll go through all the replies once more and try them all.

If the steps I gave don't work, or you have problems with any of the steps, Please email me at fozzy@holdemmanager.net, with a link to this thread, and your forum name, so we can schedule a Teamviewer session. Download the Teamviewer Quick Support Module - http://www.holdemmanager.com/teamviewer. Please let me know what time zone you are in and what time/days are convenient for you. I schedule support from 9:00 - 18:00 EST, 7 days a week.

Just wanted to say huge thanks for Fozzy71, who ran a team viewer session with me and got me sorted out.

Just to clarify, I am okay to re install firewalls now right?

I enabled windows firewall which should be sufficient. Install some anti-virus like AVG Free, Avira Free, or Microsoft Security Essentials. I personally use win firewall and MSE.

Do NOT use anything like McAffee Security Scan, Norton Internet Security, Commodo Internet Security, etc.

Thats great, I see you have!

I have one small problem, HEM tracked the first lot of hands I played, however it has not imported any of the 2nd session I have just finished, I had the HUD display running fine.
When I restart and click auto import it fails to find anything from the last session I have just played?

Any ideas?

HM imports files only one time, if you want to reimport a file for a test you need to rename it.

But i think the hands are in your database its just a filter problem. please clear your filters (filter->clear) one time although it seems like no filters are defined.
Check your playername, date/time/gametype settings etc.
