HM was working well until the moment I imported about 200K hands from a friend of mine (we swapped hands).

From that day every time I start HM I get the message that HM is optimizing player (and his name appears) - see print screen with the window Optimize Reports.

After while (usually 1 hour or so) one of two things happen:

a) Either HM blocks. I know it blocks because when it is optimizing we can see 2 tabs in the windows bar (one for HM and another for Optimize reports) and I can move the window Optimize Reports with the mouse.

As soon as it blocks the HM manager tab flashes and from that moment, if I try to move the Optimize window, I get some sort of beep, meaning that I can do nothing, unless go to task manager and kill the process holdemmanger.exe.

b) Or alternatively I get the error message below. After the error message I can work with HM normally but if I close it and open it again everything stars again.

I started had this problem still with version 1.11.05b but I updated today to 1.11.05e and the problem still persists.

Nothing else was changed in my PC or antivirus. The trigger for the problem was in fact the import of such a big number of hands.

Several questions:

a) Obviously if you have any solution for this ?

b) If not, I wonder if when I kill the process (after blocking) and then reopen the HM, if he continues the optimize process of if he starts from the beginning ? (because if he continues in the limit I can go on restarting and restarting HM until that process is completed)

c) And also important is there any way of preventing this optimization when we start HM ? Because sometimes it takes an an hour of more until blocks and I really need the HM to work without being waiting.

Thanks

How many hands do you have in your database? FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Check Total Amount of Hands in Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/115/Check+Total+Amount+of+Hands+in+Database+)

You should do a vacuum/full and reindex of your database via pgadmin: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Vacuum Analyze Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/88/Vacuum+Analyze+Database+)

Do disable the optimization see this thread for example: http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-general/27075-optimization-timing-out.html

I did the vacum and reindex but the problem subsists with an error in optimization of my friends nick (as described above).

My database has 63 million hands.

Two questions:

1. If I go on closing and restarting HM each time I get the time out message, is this at least progressing ? This way, after some closing HM will at some point ending this optimization.

2. What if I do a backup and restore ? Will I have the same problem when I will restore the db ?

1. i don't think this will help
2. the database will be a little bit faster so its worth a try

But the main problem is 63m hands in the database. Do you really need all of them? If you only need the stats for most of them i recommend you purge the hands: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Purge Hands (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/197/Purge+Hands)
